Hey all, I'm looking for a fuel injected 308 driver (without sodium filled valves) with some miles on it. I don’t want to feel bad about racking up miles. Hoping for something I can enjoy and improve on my own in my own garage. There is a nice black 308 QV that’s listed here, but I’m looking for a brighter color. Looking for something that won’t need a major service for some time so I can get to know the car a bit first before having to take it apart.

Preferably in California, but willing to fly out and drive home.

Luckily I'm very familiar with Jetronic injection from growing up with a Porsche 924 and Rabbits and Sciroccos :)

Larry, old member here is selling his 308. 2V injected, driver.
Larry owns CIS flow tech so the fuel injected system is going to be in top shape.
He mentioned it the other week when I sent in a FD body for rebuild.

    He's out in AL though.

Unless it has had a modern valve job it has sodium valves.

There are 2 kinds of used Ferraris. The best out there and the ones that will kill you financially and never be worth what you put in them.
Thats from over 45 years in the Ferrari business for whatever thats worth.
The world is full of ex, never again Ferrari owners who bought "a good deal".

^^^ Yeah if it's a 2v I'd want one with a valve job with new valves.

I fully appreciate that, if you look at my 360 F1->manual swap thread, I clearly got the latter. :D

I still love it though and being a crazy person it's fun to do all the work yourself. That's why I just want one that's been well taken care of mechanically with some miles on it and maybe a few dents so I don't feel bad actually using it.

Why would you EVER feel bad about driving it?

Seriously? Buy the best you can find and stack miles on it out the ass.

Well a while ago I bought a super clean NSX with 8k miles right at the nadir of the value curve. I drove it for a decade but the cars value kept going up. It tripled in value and every time I drove it I started to worry about the extra miles hurting it's value and and of something happening to it. I felt a bit bad about driving it. So I sold it and bought something that putting miles on and a few rock chips won't kill the value.

Unfortunately not in a fiscal position to be a spendthrift ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you are wanting to maintain resale value, that up to you.

But I don't save my cars for the next guy. Life is short. I grew up looking at 308's etc. No more of that. I have nearly 130,000 miles on mine now.

I wish Ferrari guys were more line the Mercedes guys in this respect.

Exactly. Thats like not wanting to mess up the bed by sleeping in it. Does anyone ever feel bad driving a new car? Why would this be any different?

Because you have organizations like Hagerty and others promoting cars - even the mundane - as an investment as much as a hobby. As a result, everyone thinks their Gremlin is the next Cobra, while many here think their 3X8 is the next Dino….which may be true - eventually - but meanwhile, the cost to maintain a 3X8 is as much as a Dino.
Thanks to both these facts, more and more 3X8s are being taken off the road and put into bubbles….unfortunately.

I am getting ready to sell my 1984 308 GTS QV. Its metallic black over tan with 62k miles. I've owned it for 25 years, service receipts since new. I have personally put over 30,000 miles on it. Just spent an UNGODLY amount of money on a major service done with a clutch and all sorts of stuff at Ferrari of Atlanta. Incredibly well documented and complete car. Selling because I want a F430 Coupe or 550/575 Maranello. Not perfect but a great driving car that looks good. I'll be listing it in the Ferrari Market Letter in a few weeks.

I just saw a video that pertained to a Shelby GT500KR and the guy (from Hagerty) said something to the effect of "Don't touch any bolts on the car if you can help it since those bolts were tightened originally at the Shelby factory!"

Uhhhh... almost 60-year-old car I'm pretty sure some of the bolts if not ALL of the bolts have been touched in one way or another at this point.

I totally get taking care of cars, I totally get trying to keep things original, but some of the stuff I've heard/seen is just crazy.

My 78 still has the spare tire from the factory. I am not touching it because it was installed by some Italian dude in Italy. :D

Well that and it may explode!
