Forgot if I posted this yet or not but does anyone have a recommendation on the best radar detector to get?

I'm not looking to speed but going on a road trip in my cars with some friends on unknown roads and don't want someone to get popped going 10 over or something like that.

I have this in both my sports cars. Highly recommend. Has been very accurate thus far.

I have Valentines (V1 & 2). They have been great. The new one is better... less false alarms. No interactions with other car's radar cruise control. Once you have the arrows.... you'll never go back!

    Yes and no.

For the really sneaky "traps" - cops hiding in the bushes with either instant-on or laser, and nobody else around to get hit and generate a signal - that's true.

The reason I use a detector religiously is that the cops around here literally drive around with their Ka-band blazing 100% of the time on normal patrols. So if I am careful anytime I get a Ka band hit, I have at least mitigated the risk of doing something blatantly stupid around a cop I may have not noticed, who may or may not even be looking to catch a speeder but would be forced to respond.

In other words, the detector can't really save you from a speed trap (If no-one else is around) but it can save you from yourself!

Valentine One ... longtime user. All the Waze alerts in the world won't save you from a moving radar car. I turn off everything except Ka band. The arrows and bogey counter will save you when they are lurking near one of those speed limit radar signs, you will see a 2 instead of a 1 when you approach (favorite local trick of law enforcement). Nothing will save you from laser except one of the jammers but I did not want to modify the car or spend 3-4x as much, and didn't really care for the interface when I had the Escort built-in to a 911 I bought. Laser is not widely in use here at any rate.

I've had Valentine Ones for over 20 years. Now I have two Gen2s, the Gen1 technology is outdated. You can send your Gen1 into Valentine One and they can make it into a Gen2. These have saved my tail more times than I can count. Seriously, they work and work great. I also have the V1 Tech Display that shows the radio frequency of all the police radars around here. The police frequencies are usually in the mid 30s and speed cameras and speed signs are in the 20s. Some construction signs will throw out a 10-12 frequency. I have learned to pay quick attention to any signals in the 30 range.
