Let me say this from the outset, I've never been a big proponent or advocate for the "red book" process. However. I often wonder whether or not it really adds value to the car at the time of sale. At any rate, does anyone know whether or not the presence of MSD boxes is an immediate disqualification? Ditto the presence of Spal fans, clearly added later. Or is the process more arbitrary and capricious, depending on whether or not the inspector had a good night before the inspection.

    thanks Steve.
(sorry, I cross posted this to get as many answers as possible. s)

Correct ignition components are a specific item listed and a photograph included in the book.
    Not sure on the fans.

Its a plus for some people, not for others. Not sure it has ever added a dollar to sale price but if a car is certified the selling agent never ever fails to bring it up.

Maybe having a Red Book is a good indication prior owner was willing to invest money in it., probably willing to stay up on squawks and not delay stuff.

Thanks so much..... I called Ferrari of Houston and the requirements are onerous. Almost $15,000 in upfront coss plus the car stays at the dealer for 2 to 3 months while they mess around with stuff. They also assemble and disassemble components of your car. Just one more chance for something else to happen that wouldn't have happened otherwise. I will probably continue without one. Thanks, Steve.

i had both my 275 and daytona "red booked" -the cost was nothing like that and the only thing they took apart was the air cleaner to see the carbs..and the wheel so they could look at the brakes, as far as I know. I also think it is not worthwhile except as the finishing touch.

I have had cars that the factory asked for door panels and the surround around the windshield removed as well as removal of the grill and radiator for pictures. They wanted to see the signatures on the back of the interior panels and one car had been converted from a 4 headlight car to a 2 headlight car due to an accident and that was visible from underneath once disassembled. Not always but the factory can ask for some pretty strange items.

I've yet to hear or see any evidence of Classiche Certification actually providing added value when selling a car or even making it sell easier/faster.

I mean has anyone had a (vintage ?) Ferrari without a Red Book openly for sale with no interest or takers, let's say, for a year or longer and then a potential buyer shows up with a cash deposit in hand and says "I'll pay your full asking price & associated fees if you get it certified first. In the mean time, here's my deposit !" ?

That is exactly what I fear! Some young Ferrari tech who doesn't know a carburetor from a brake disc, pawing all over my Daytona. I'm certain that I easily meet the psychiatric definition of paranoid, but I am very uncomfortable with anyone else touching my car other than someone I know while I stand there. I'm not even a mediocre mechanic, but I am very careful. I treat my cars in a sympathetic manner. It would be impossible for me to leave my Daytona at the dealer for two or three months under any circumstances. Shoot me first. s

I think it is a fair discussion red book does or doesn't add any value. I'm very certain it doesn't take value away from a car like a car that had question originality. I don't think I would add Red Book to any more cars at this point, it use to be less than $4k and recently as 5 years ago $8k. I support not doing it, but it would certainly get a bonus point in my book if buying a car with red book. There are so many Ferraris out there today with mods, none original parts or set ups, and potentially worse that would never get a Red Book without fixing first.

Keep in mind that a Red Book needs to be "maintained" as well. If your car was certified back in 2014, your Red Book is of no more value now than if the car was simply new in 2014.

Yes, it's only a snapshot in time hence my reluctance to fool with it. However, as a stockholder in Ferrari (RACE), I want them to make as much money as theycan, just not off of me! s

I bought about 70 shares during the IPO.

It is a nice value now but I don't want to ever sell it so it's like house equity if you are never moving. It will be someone's inheritance one day. Not enough to retire on but a nice bonus for them.

Value is in the eye of the buyer.
The presence of MSD boxes is an automatic disqualifier.
As would aftermarket fans if / when visible in photographs.
The process is the same for anyone performing it, now that the process has been automated via online portal, photo examples provided must be replicated, and information must be inputted, then submitted for review.

Daytona Classiche prices have increase, as have other models, over the past several years.
Inspection cost will vary as well depending on the shops hourly rate, etc.\
2-3 months, yeah, no... 2-3 business days... and 5 days is the longest I have seen it take in the past 12-18 months
Disassembly would be limited in my experience, but that's not to say something may come up, if SpA has questions of authenticity.
Is there anything "special" about your Daytona that may come up?

I absolutely HAVE had buyers request a Classiche inspection be performed. One transaction, it was in additional to a
Pre Purchase Inspection as a condition of purchase. With the agreement that they buyer would pay all costs when Classiche approved the application.

As a buyer, with side by side vehicles, the only variable being one had the red book, the other did not, which would you choose? Why?
