I recall that the original Lotus 72 was quite problematic, which is why he drove the 49 at Monaco (and won).
Actually Jack beat himself. He knew that his brakes were going and that he had to take it easy at the Gasworks. I think if he had braked easier he would have made the corner and still had enough of a lead to hold off Jochen for the win. But in the heat of battle he forgot that and braked normally, and his weak brakes failed completely. But I think Jochen could see that Jack's brakes were going and put the pressure on. Jack is lucky that he was able to back out and make it to the line before anyone else passed him.
That wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that an American driver won the chapionship would it?
Just a big fan of both Mario and Ronnie Peterson. FWIW Enzo Ferrari didn't consider Mario to be an American driver as he was born in Italy.
Flugplatz corner. Right after going airborne you have to immediately brake when all 4 wheels touch the ground otherwise you'll overshoot the corner bigtime
A legend of sorts. Quiet Beatle George Harrison meandering about undisturbed at the Canadian Grand Prix in (I believe) 1981. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
