Why not do EU import then? I’ve bought several cars from the US and imported to EU. I know there can be some barriers in the current geopolitical situation, but besides that? Are CS import awaiting the 25-year import rule?
Yes. The 25 year rule used to be the primary hurdle. But now tariffs have made it even more challenging
25 year issue is one, but non-US cars typically have more miles and US buyers have leaned more on lower mile cars. There is also the issue of not knowing a car's history as well in regards to accidents or prior thefts. I think DK Engineering has or had an F50 in silver that was previously a stolen car in Japan for a while and hoops to go through on that to sort. An F50 in Canada trying to get into the US was stopped and seized due to VIN tampering and was a prior theft car. A US car with well documented history and low miles in the US will sell for much more than a non-US car. I prefer non-US cars only because the specs I like more (non-red), but otherwise I would go with a US one. Parts are getting harder to find by the year so a mint car is worth a lot as getting one that needs even only a few parts could add up quickly, too.
… and now a day later it’s at $455k with 10 days still to go. Makes me a bit sad actually, all of my favorite Ferraris have shot way up in price and will be unobtainable.
I love to see the value recognition this car should get, but one auction on BaT for a low mile non-red example hardly sets the market. Aside from that one anomalous $500k car, most others I can recall in recent memory have changed hands for $2-300’s.
The CS should be valued at the top of the “special” list. The First The rarest The most Beautiful The rawest The least electronic In What World is a Speciale now valued at 800k and a CS only 300k ? CS is on the move upward.
In general I agree that one unique car doesn’t necessarily set the market, but I have seen this happen multiple times before where all it takes is one high sale and overnight the market shifts significant upward. It happened with 599 manuals, happened with Speciales recently, Scuds, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if this sale causes a sudden jump in CS prices overall.
It’s the 288 GTO of the group. It will sooner or later get recognized as that also iMHO, as the years pass the performance delta matters less and less.
The car has super low miles, so you would have to assume that it was driven only on occasion. Putting race fuel in a car (that does not empty the tank often) is a good idea as the race fuel will last many years without issue (whereas pedestrian fuel can deteriorate over a relatively short period).
+1 CS is also the only one where they took a Challenge car and ADDED bits to make it street legal while all the models after took the street version and REMOVED bits to lighten the car into a track variant. Notable difference in its base template used.
This Euro car had 92k km in 2018: https://www.challengestradale.com/132963.html Another one with 90k km in 2020: https://www.challengestradale.com/137254.html And this must be one of the highest mileage US cars with almost 50k miles in 2021: https://www.challengestradale.com/136866.html
Ive looked at CS all over. EU, US and JP. Ive had the honor of owning in the US and JP. I would say the Japanese examples are very clean if purchased through a dealer. The inspections are thorough and a way for dealers or indies to make money so stuff is always replaced and cars are usually in good condition. The EU cars are more rugged. They drive and enjoy their cars. They rarely use ppf so patina is a thing. DJT tarrifs would make a Japanese purchase pricey. The last two CS sold in JP went for 250k usd and 275k usd. Add tarrifs and youre over the 300k mark. The EU and JP had cooler options. Roll bar, lexan and bumpers without the ugly square reflectors.
Yes, and the 4 point harnesses. One of the coolest options imo. The Euro “B” VIN’s and RHD “C” VIN cars had the lexan, rollbar and 4 point harness options available. JP cars had the rollbar option, but no lexan windows or harnesses.
Stradale, scuderia, Speciale will all most likely climb a lot, it’s been overdue imo. I personally wouldn’t want any Ferrari other Ferrari in existence under 1 million outside of those 3. And even then I’d have to stretch to almost 3 million because an f40 is the next best after those 3. If you want a N/A special racecar version of a Ferrari, those are your only options and there’s not many of them I was telling all my buddies last few years shopping new Ferraris….just get a Speciale for same price. well that ship sailed, for good reason. And stradale are insanely rare by today’s production numbers. They’ll probably get to a price I won’t be able to comprehend just like so many other collector cars, so maybe a million in 10 years hahaha
When I got mine in 2013 I recall a black one in Italy with 3000miles, fully optioned inc. lexan side windows, on sale for €100,000, or about $115,000.
the CS has always been insanely under valued for some reason, wouldn't be suprised at all if people double their money over the next 4yrs
I never finished this, sorta ran out of steam, and haven't posted it publicly... but in the interest of celebrating this great BAT sale, here's a little driving vid I put together late last year.
Badass! You should post that link on the BaT listing comment lines if anyone is on the fence & sees/hears that beauty you bet they will bid!
Threads like this makes me wish 360 and F430 had different overarching forums. Yes cool best 360..great..expensive..yay.. Put anything into Nvidia stock 5 years ago and it blows the car market out of the water. Cars are not investments. Everything here is about oh oh oh it's going up. wait wait wait I'm here to comment it is going up. Give it a rest and talk about the enjoyment of the car please.
