I always thought Jenson Button "proved" himself to be a World Champion when he held his own against Hamilton at McLaren, but maybe not?

There’s a problem with that, too….the points system changed many times, then you have increasing numbers of races during a season, points for fastest lap, etc. points, races won, etc., could be part of determining the greatest, but it’s still highly subjective….or at least it should be. Too many variables across 70 years.

Exactly. Great drivers get a slow, sick and dying car over the line. I've never seen Hamilton do that but have seen dozens of other great drivers do that. Moss, Brabham, McLaren, Fangio etc etc. Hamilton is a front runner. When things are not going well, he can't seem to handle that. Thus is not a great driver. In fact not in my top 10 of all time, not by a long shot. I've read stories of Nuvolari getting seriously sick cars over the line for a win. No wonder Enzo adored him. Now he was a seriously great driver.

This is one of two videos that I've seen since the Dutch GP that have said the same thing: was Lewis' car sabotaged at Zandvoort?

Agreed. I'm not sure my sarcasm came through. F1 career points is a completely invalid stat because of the reasons you mentioned.

NO. He just took the most dominant car from 2014 to 2020, that had about a 30 second lead coming into the last lap and maintained the lead after the tire blew halfway through the lap. Nothing heroic or masterful, just maintaining the lead and still won by 5.82 seconds.

Lewis had one of the most dominant cars in history and a 45 second lead because Max pitted and crossed the line in first. Carlos Sainz also had a tire blow out (from farther back on track) and the tire actually came off and not just deflated and yet he was faster than Lewis in his final lap.

I should have mentioned another important variable: driving for points rather than wins. John Surtees once said directly to me, “I never started a race I didn’t intend to win.” That’s a great race car driver.

Of course it wasn't sabotage. Ludicrous assumption from the youtube page. 1 quick look at said youtube page also tells you a lot. Despite being called F1 seekers it's nothing more than a Lewis promotion channel. The ONLY thing it talks about is Lewis.

Well, there’s no need to sabotage Hamilton
In addition to the above, the pseudopage is based on a false premise, and that is that Lewis Hamilton needs outside help to achieve his calamitous performance.

That premise has been proven false: Lewis Hamilton is capable of being an agonising disaster and starring in embarrassing moments by himself, without requiring help or intervention from third parties.

I think maybe the meaning of “underestimated” was lost in translation……..Let the excuses, finger pointing and backpedaling begin….What a way to go to Monza, eh?

    Really?!?!?

These guys are paid handsomely for being the so called “experts” and they didn’t see this coming?

Who in their right mind thought he’d do well for the team?

Beaten by Button in his prime.

Beaten by Rosberg to a title in his prime.

Beaten by Russell who was new to the team (!!!! aren't we making excuses for Lewis now that he switched to a new team and therefore we should expect Leclerc to dominate him???).

The jig is up. People believed the overpowered cars relative to the rest of the field and commentator hype for far too long.

Very quick in either a perfectly suited to him car or one that's so quick all he has to beat is a Bottas or Kovalainen.

This is the same guy that called Bottas his fastest teammate. The same Bottas that found his next match in....Zhou. Forgets to acnknowledge the existence of Rosberg any day ending in Y.

His PR teams' job got miles easier when Mercedes had an enormous lasting advantage over the rest of the field.

That is it. People forget how dominant that Merc of years ago was. Plus it had "Party Mode" just for fun.

Never forget 2014 when Mercedes pulled out 7+ seconds in 2 laps after a restart in Bahrain. Verstappen's 2023 RB19 was never once that dominant in terms of pace advantage.
