People "lack fund" to buy a 296 but spend the same money to buy an F8 - that's what the market is currently saying. And people now spend more money to buy a Pista than to buy an SF90. In both cases, the hybrid model has a clear performance advantage; but that does not overcome the reluctance to buy a hybrid - for some, it's the rejection of the technology (like some reject turbos and stick to NA), but for some others, it's clearly the lack of confidence in Ferrari's implementation.
I've struggled as my own biases are different. I frankly don't differentiate b/w a turbo or a turbo hybrid. It's a turbo and lacks the charm of a NA engine. After driving the 296, i thought it was a better car performance and driving wise than the Pista. i have zero doubts about that. But perceptions are hard to overcome. One has to experience it themselves and see what they prefer and be open to change. For normal street driving the turbo and turbo hybrids can't be beat. the low end torque provides more enjoyment. revving a NA motor to 9K when opportunity allows (and there are not that many) is an exhilerating experience.
Thanks @KZEVO. Here’s the quick story: Car started fine in EV mode in the AM. That was previously a good sign to me that things would be fine. I left the neighborhood in EV mode and fired up the engine about 2 minutes into the drive by turning the e-Manettino to Qualifying mode. Car fires up immediately and begins doing its warm up sequence as I’m driving roughly 0-45mph. I change it from Auto mode to Manual mode, turn on the Bumpy Road mode in Sport. After the warm up was completed, while waiting at a stop light, the car threw a bunch of codes and indicated it was proceeding to put the car into Turtle mode. Examples of some errors of the top of my head: - Warning! Limited performance of the engine - Engine control failure. Go to dealer - ESC system failure. Go to dealer - E-DIFF recovery - Low Beam Failure Naturally I’m unhappy about this situation for a $550k car.
Likely more people are turning in their NA Turbo's for 296 SF90 - than turning 296 SF90 for Pista F8. Warranty fresh styling upgrading - regardless of hybrid. It does amaze me Ferrari the worlds best branding / marketing company made very little effort to support the new tech. I believe they were hyper focussed on all electric, like Porsche. Second hand buyers will always favor affordability and costs vs the first who simply wan the next best thing, it's faster fresh and under warranty,

Sorry to hear this. What happened after that? Were you able to get to a parking lot or side of the road? Did it need to get towed to the dealer?
Or misinformation being spread. SF90's 296's were well over msrp - but with financial uncertainty and high interest rates people had knee jerk reactions. It happens every cycle - history repeats itself - Ferrari's always had this curve on standard models - 296 SF90 are no different. I bought a 612 FF both dropped 150k in 12 months - fast forward nothing has changed. The SF90 296 brought up in value every older model - so did the F80. Rising tides I was referencing a first time buyer who can't afford to lose - people sometimes buy cars for all the wrong reasons - that is not Ferrari's fault. In fact they reward their customers with special allocations and residual value. The VS will reward 296 owners - not all but a lot and that's what people stay in line for - the special editions.
If the business model is to sell the regular cars to the people who will get the VS, then it's fundamentally flawed because Ferrari needs to sell the regular models to people who will not get the VS. People getting the VS could be happy with their trophy, but people buying the regular version (and not buying the VS) need to be happy with their car. There are also people getting the VS who want more than a trophy, and expect a (relatively) functional car.
I think Im in a minority but I much prefer the non-carbon rear grille. It's way too much black on the rear of the car to my eye. I and I really like the look of the painted rear above the diffuser.
It all comes down to personal choices. Ferrari has become rather adept at offering the client choices for a price. You make a good point regarding a paint color vs more carbon especially the brighter paint colors that offer more contrast with black/gray carbon.
I think you are right about the brighter paints. I like the look of the challenge rear bumper better with some colors than others. I think it looks good with reds like this one.
I like it too, but I LOVE that carbon piece looking like the challenge car. I don't love that it's $15K, but I'll spec it.
I think its more than that, these cars are good but they aren't special and there are so many available. Moreover, there isn't any exclusivetiy. Anyone could get a car, there were no prerequisites. A lot of these first time buyers freaked and immediately listed their cars.
Car made it home fine, just auto shifts at 2-3k rpm so literally no power. Won't downshift to first gear to avoid high torque output. I had my transport guy take the car to the dealer so it's there now. I really hope they figure this stuff out on the Speciale. I did read a thread that the 12V battery could be the culprit.
Keep us posted. I would be surprised if it is not the battery. I had battery die on the 458 once and the dealer said that the reason it starts throwing all the various codes is because the car (and why trickle charger is so important tonhave car connected) goes thru a cycle of checking all functions and when the battery is low, it cant do that and wjere it stopped or was not able to check are the codes its start to throw. Good luck
With all those codes together, my bet is the regular 'small' battery. I'm on my 5th or 6th F12 battery in 5 years, and everything goes when the battery is low.
Anyone know what the exterior dreamline options are for the Speciale, anything like the SF-90XX with a dreamline between the headlights area (like below) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks @KZEVO @Data @ryalex - hoping it's just the 12V battery too. That said, the car's always been on the tender since I received it. The thing I've found though is when the car even goes in for service, the dealers are inconsistent about keeping the car on the tender. If I check my car right now, it is not on the tender.
Mine was on tender as well and it still died. apparantely if there is voltage fluctuation, you should disconnect and reconnect the tender just to be safe. mine showed it was charged but it wasn't. so many variables. i hope it's nothing more. Regarding dealers, yes, its annoying about the dealers. however, they typically will either disconnect the battery or charge it before giving the car back to you.
100% - couldn't handle losing and making big payments I don't understand marketing, should have made VS owners wait til VS was delivered. VS - 3k coupes 1500 spiders guessing production - that many 296's being held for an extra year or two would have helped dramatically. The 296M / SF90M will be interesting, believe it will be far more limited.
THANK YOU , you worded that perfectly…. until someone does not drive this car their comment is void in my view.
