Good afternoon, I have been driving my 2025 GTB and it’s been generally amazing however today a new problem. Trying to start and drive the car with E mode as I have done a few times before, today it would not engage and tried lock and unlock plug in and unplug a few times then just decided to drive in ICE mode and it ran fine but would never toggle to e mode even in hybrid, rather warning light showing emode with cross hatch though it. Couple questions for the group A. Should it run from cold start without any engine warmup B, any others with this issue or thoughts on problems. Car is always plugged in and charged fully cheers
I have found that based on how cold the engine is, that it won’t immediately start on pure E. When I say “engine,” I mean some part of the powertrain that likely has to do with having the hybrid system ready. On very hot days, no waiting. On cold winter days, I had to run the ICE engine (no pun intended) for awhile to get it into emode. Not the same amount of time for a fully warmed up 180 degree oil and water temp ICE engine, but low ice engine temps. Usually 1-2 minutes at most. What I did instead was put the car into pure hybrid mode and the car would then warm to point where E mode would be available.
Thanks for that great tip I may go out for a longer drive later to see. I did run it for about 15 minutes in hybrid and it never picked up E but maybe not long enougjh. It was a decent day too at about 75F thanks again
I had a similar problem, but in both instances the IC engine later died while driving, requiring the car to be towed. PS - Ferrari roadside assistance is an oxymoron. My dealer had to come with their hauler, because no assistance was available. Anyway, it took some doing but they eventually replaced some things and got it sorted. Hopefully yours is less complicated.
Thanks everyone, yes I hope it’s nothing major as there is still some summer left to drive and would hate to send it packing. That said, I started it in hybrid mode and only the ICE engine start and it was likely around ambient on the start of around 50F in the garage but I drove it for about 15 minutes at the 70-75F on the street. I may have to give it a try later
I have had my ‘25 GTS for six months , I never start the ICE until I am out of the garage so I pull out in E mode, never had a problem. I then start the ICE and warm the car till the oil reaches 50-60 degrees C (120 -140 F)then move off and do not push the car until the oil is around 80 degrees C (175 F) The car now has 2000 km (1250 miles) on it and was run in as per handbook.
See that’s what I thought too as I have driven off in pure EV mode a few times in similar conditions and did not have issues even though I was told that it needs to meet certain parameters first. learning curve but I guess for now all I get is the 670 HP (maybe GT3 conversion in the future?)
I also sometimes see the E mode crossed out light. So my theory on how it works is this, again, just my guess. If you cold start normally, it starts in ev mode. But once you start engine for any reason, it will go to ice warm up. Due to the engine being so small and efficient, it can take a good 10-15 min of gentle driving even in 90 degrees florida weather. Kind of annoying but it is fuel efficient... It makes sense to me that e mode will be disabled until engine is really well warmed up and all systems are happy. Otherwise you're going to risk start stop frequently in hybrid mode and that would be very bad for a cold engine.
I have the same problem a while back, multiple times the car doesn’t allow me to go in emode. It’s definitely not temperature related, some drives are 2hrs on the motorway, then city speeds. And on one or two occasion it fires up the engine when starting the car in hybrid mode. I also had the engine fire up when coasting down mountains in ev mode for a while, I’m assuming that’s heat related. Didn’t think much of it since there’s no other issues. Hopefully not my battery wearing out, my car has 24k km and the dash shows about 40% of my drives are electric.
Update! I started the car today in Hybrid and it went straight to ICE, so I drove it around for about 20 mins in hybrid and all of a sudden it went silent on throttle lift and e mode was alive. it stayed that way and no awkward glitches. I chock this up to operator error or “just the way it is”. lol thanks everyone
Couple months ago I had an update that really helped the transition from E from to ICE. You might check to see if your car is up,to the latest revision…
I have a 296 GTB, purchased a couple of months ago, before that I had a Huracan. The Ferrari is light years ahead, but there again it was designed much later than the Huracan. I have only driven about 1,000 miles but it sure puts a smile on your face if not points on your license! Yesterday was sunny so I decided to take it for a run. Mine defaults to Hybrid drive when first started, which is fine as it needs to be manoeuvred out of the garage which only allows about a foot on either side of the mirrors. It then needs to be turned in a small space with walls on two sides. Again, hybrid is the best option although I do find the take up on the drive a bit quick for tight manoeuvres. Anyway, I proceeded down my driveway which is currently partially obstructed due to construction work in Hybrid mode, because of the very restricted width. Halfway down the drive the car (showing full battery 15 miles range) decided to start the engine, it’s never happened before. The car leapt forward as the RPM was close to 3,000! Fortunately, I was able to pull back on both paddles and stamp on the brakes and stop the engine. I then continued down the driveway in hybrid mode as I could not get out of the car due to the proximity of scaffolding and a wall. I turned onto the road and proceeded down the hill, I then decided to select the flag on the steering wheel to fire up the engine. It immediately shot to 5,000 rpm! By this time I was very disturbed having 819 wild horsepower doing what it wanted, without any input was disturbing to say the least! I was wondering what to do, so I selected edrive and proceeded to return to the garage. I contacted Ferrari breakdown assistance, and because it was Saturday afternoon the recovered car would be put in storage until Monday morning. I said arrange a pickup on Monday. I then phoned the dealership and spoke to sales as service had closed at midday. I wanted to let someone hear what the engine was doing, as I thought it might have a mind of its own on Monday morning, and refuse to repeat what was happening. I have just been outside and started the car in the garage, (Sunday) totally normal engine operation! I was somewhat shaken by what had a happened. If it had happened a minute earlier, I would have stuffed the car into one of the walls! Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
I had a similar problem of the car not going into E-Drive. I later figure out the car was in race mode. Now, I put it in Sport mode and it goes right into E. No problamo.
Strange. Until the car is warmed up I only drive in performance mode. I have never had the problem. Maybe you are in Race mode and Hybrid instead of Sport- not that that should matter?
