Exactly right, William! What also bothers me are the frequent negative comments about the guys working the gun in the pit lane. These people operate under extreme pressure, are away from home almost constantly, and don’t get the paycheck or the fringe benefits our stars enjoy! It’s no secret that I’m not a Hamilton fan, but I must admit his thank-you/encouragement to his pit crew after a successful pit stop was a very classy reminder of how much these people deserve recognition.
Spot on. The amount of lando hate here is stupid. He is a blown engine (not his fault) and a crash and Dnf (his fault) and he would be leading the championship. Oscar is a great driver but lando gets a lot of crap for no reason.
Totally agreed. And Zack telling Piastri he is now free to race Norris with like 3 laps left, c'mon. There was no chance in hell for him to win that position back so fast.
What complete BS by McLaren. Norris should be embarrassed to take 2nd. I thought Hamilton drove his best race of the year. Charlie did as well as he could. It was fun seeing him pass Piastri. Max drove really, really well but the race was stunk up by McLaren shenanigans. What ever happened to "that's racing"?
But those are the unforeseen hazards of motor racing ! McLaren is under no obligation to redress the balance by hampering Norris' team mate. I find the concept ludicrous. I don't know about "Lando hate", but McLaren is certainly playing the "woke" card here by their actions. Not that they would care a fig, but Zak Brown and Andrea Stella will lose public support going that way.
Imagine for just one moment Aston Martin would do something like that to hamper Alonso and benefit Lance. The outrage on here would be deafening.
Nonsense. Lando let Piasti pit first to help his teammate cover Lecrec. He didn’t have to do that. And then it would have been piastri who would have the 6 second pit stop.
Yeah, Ron Dennis let them fight it out among themselves and wasn't too worried about their "mental health" !! In those days, we watched F1 sitting on the edge of our seat God, am I glad I saw F1 during that period, compared to the woke era now, with penalties and team orders.
But where does it stop? It's part of racing. It doesn't really matter, Zac runs the team how he sees fit. I bet Piastri will feel a bit miffed if he's lets say gets 2 not-at-fault DNF's and has to play catch up, that 6 point swing he just gave up are something he'll look back on as not wise I imagine. I highly doubt in that scenario that Mclaren will do their best to equal the scores. Right now he's certainly done ''right'' thing to be in good graces of the team but there are few chances of winning a title (just ask Leclerc, or Kimi Raikkonen). You shoot and take the points that are on offer. If the others' gun malfunctions, tough luck
I pulled this opinion from The Race.com spot on it is. Controlling to the point of idiocy at McNorris Racing! McLaren must take this to the logical extreme Valentin Khorounzhiy Norris was obviously not at fault for the six-point swing that was about to go against him - and, really, too much in motor racing is beholden to random chance, and it is McLaren's duty to rectify it in this particular title race, given its privileged position of car dominance. In the next race, it must send out Piastri with a faulty engine to make up for what happened at Zandvoort. But Melbourne wasn't very nice also, and hardly Piastri's fault, so it needs to order Norris to go off into the grass at some point from a top-two position. Piastri got screwed by strategy in Hungary, so McLaren has to make that right, though I can't quite come up with a mechanism yet. In any case, it also must lobby the FIA to get all the other cars to withdraw from the rest of the season, lest any of them influence the proceedings by giving one of its drivers a timely slipstream or colliding with them. Still, even like that, there are just so many factors that can influence events. Maybe the only way to be fair is to park both for the rest of the season. That way, neither can get an undue advantage.
Exactly this. Mclaren is engineering a championship but you can only do so much. Maybe they should get rid of the racing altogether and just hand the title to whoever has qualified best all season. Because what if an overtake wasn't done in a complete fair way. Or one got held up more than the other by lapped traffic.
So Mac screws up Norris' pit, forces Oscar to give it back, then Apologies to NORRIS for the screw up. There is only one reason they would do this: Mac is worried Norris will raise a stink about the team. The Sky boys: "Oh yes, makes perfect sense."
Faulty airgun? damaged wheelnut? crossthread? Since when a team has to assure parity in the lenghts of pit stops among team mates? That will be a new one to many folks, I guess.
Max simply showed that he is the best driver on the grid. He was amazing to watch today. Lando's pit stop was a team's fault. Zak Brown is managing a team. His decision today was for the team over either driver. Lando's decision to let Piastri pit first was for the team. Piastri's decision to give a position to Lando was for the team. They didn't have to like it, but they did it. It cost neither driver very much, and both drivers know that they are being treated equally. Ferrari would be lucky to have Zak Brown running their show.
I wonder how the bookies feel about the McNorris team? And the people who had their money on Piastri. Somebody should sue McNorris for betting manipulation.
Apparently it was neither that you mentioned with regards to problems with the airgun. Currently, the airgun has a red light and green light where the mechanic operating the airgun can clearly see whatever light appears at time of operation with the wheel nut. Green light means the wheel nut has been torqued properly after operation. Red light means the wheel nut HAS NOT been torqued properly and therefore the airgun must be reapplied to get a green light for proper torque. Most of the teams have this lighting system on the airgun.
