His last 2 years at Mercedes were the bell tolling. He had the glorious win at Brit GP. He should have departed the grid that year. That was a good close-out. No he goes to Ferrari. Probably 3-4 years too late to really be competitive. Yes the new regs/cars offer opportunity but we have data showing he is simply not as competitive and FA is the same. They both need to be out of the sport.

The Scuderia is CONSIDERING of opening up an engineering base in the U.K. (Silverstone) in order to attract a better talent of engineers according to Nico Rosberg at SkySports Germany.

Am I overblowing this but when Fred was at Sauber, they were no where, he goes to Ferrari. Binotto gets the door, goes to Sauber and the team is doing well. Seems a lot of ex-Ferrari people do well in other teams. Ferrari was somewhere end of last year, now we are effective 3rd, despite the points. Am I missing something?

Well, Sauber now has Audi paying the bills, that's an important difference. Yet they didn't improve with Seidl. Did Seidl suddenly became useless at Sauber? Did Binotto suddenly became a genius? I don't think so, there are many elements at play.

Without the technical staff to man such a facility it would be pointless. There recent recruitment is way below whats needed to jump to the No1 slot.

Having said that it may attract UK based engineers who would have rejected working in Italy.

To late for 2026 challenger and as we all know, once a team gets ahead of the chasing pack, its difficult to dislodge them with the current testing & development restrictions, cost caps etc.

As usual they are to late to the party, the others have already gone home

A UK facility and an Italian one will just be Toyota 2.0, when they operated partially in Cologne and partially in Japan. Ferrari need someone committed enough to move to Italy (how hard can that be) and one that knows how to run the team, motivate people and instill a workable atmosphere.

Vettel has shown that even with the best attitude in the world, if the results aren't quite there, you won't get the Italians to jump of a bridge for you. Results for Ferrari are everything. I don't think there's a guy that finds more in a car than Max. And from what I've heard of so many people, people within the paddock (not just Red Bull) all flock to him.

I don't think he'll be like Michael knowing everyones' birthday and their childs mothers grandmas name, but he's as close to michael as you can possibly get, with even more talent and ability I would say.

If he does AND wins a championship though...that would surely make a big bump up in F1 history status.

Dont worry its all part of Freds cunning plan......let all your top engineers go, hire in under grad students & let the guy who has been part of the 2026 engine dept go to your opponent with all the secrets of your new engine.

If he is on gardening leave then I wonder what seeds will be sown in his new garden.

Makes perfect sense to a idiot.

The power units have been pretty good the past few years. This isn’t great news. Although their replacements may be just as capable. Where are these two heading is perhaps an important question.

Phew! Ok, I was scared. For a moment I thought they’d go where a wise leader would leverage their talents.

Do you forget the Ferrari 'environment' that Binotto left and now Fred 'enjoys' lol???? Audi has Wheatley among others that are very capable. AMG Powerplants is certainly capable. Not sensing this as a loss for either who have left but possibly for Ferrari. They have enough problems attracting 'talent' to live and work in Italy.

Enes Tas, aerodynamacist for cooling, is also leaving Ferrari and is headed to join MercedesAMGF1.

Fred is really turning this into a blood bath.

Just what the Scuderia needs. Organizational unrest, scrambling to recruit new lead engineers willing to put their reputation on the line.

Binotto did the same thing when he became TP at Ferrari.

Every 5 years or so, this kinda shakeup happens.

What did you expect? Audi is starting from scratch, they have to go around the paddock giving blank checks, some Ferrari guys had to end up there. Although these high profile signings at this point in time make me think they're late.
