I know a lot of people desire one, but I don't think manual clutch is very realistic with modern power figures.
This is what I have been saying for a years. They take a great fundamental shape and ruin it with poorly executed cluttered details that detract from the whole.
Such a strange decision, imo. Make it an option to remove it for some silly figure; I'm sure plenty of owners will accept it, more money for the brand. I caught a 12C in the other section that was wrapped with a 1972 livery & the Daytona strip was covered. Looks great.
I think they improved the SF90 shape, but it wasn't a too difficult task... The car is much modern and its shape is a mix between the F80 and SP3 Daytona, but the SP3 looks much better. This new 849 doesn't look bad at all: they only completely missed the name. I think they could save Testarossa for something else with a V12 inside Ciao
Bringing up Fioravanti, for whom I have the utmost respect, is rather misleading here. I simply expressed an opinion that differs from yours, providing a rationale to support it. On the other hand, the tranchant statement "an 8-year-old could have done better !" simply expresses an ideologically adverse, definitive judgement that is insubstantial and useless if anyone wanted to see it as a key to understanding the overall aesthetic (or unaesthetic, in your mind ) concept of the car. Perhaps it would be helpful to know how the hypothetical eight-year-old child could have solved the design more effectively , but I declare this is a purely rhetorical question that does not require a real answer....
It was a real "homologation car" for Group B. On the other hand, the 599 GTO, despite the V12 and its glorious sound, blah, blah, blah, was a shameless cash cow. I suppose "purists" don´t care about history as long as the looks and sound are OK.
I think one can argue that the 599 GTO was / is a maniacal front V12 hot rod. In that regard a lot of similarities with the 250 GTO. The current naming convention seems to be absolutely random. The 849 has no connection with any Testarossa visually or mechanically.
The new one has more connection with the 80s Testarossa than the 80s Testarossa with the 50s Testa Rossa. Both are big, heavy, mid engine GTs more concerned about raw power and sophistication than racing.
Totally agree with the name change. Like the Dinos of yore(yeah I know, those cars were/are gorgeous) Ferrari should create a new subbrand: The MANZONI! So when the car goes zipping past and someone exclaims” what a weird looking car! Was that a Ferrari?” You can respond”no! It’s a Manzoni! Rhymes with Baloney!( I prefer Mortadella myself)”
Two possible reasons: 1) They need to use the name to maintain the trademark (I believe this was, at least partially, why the 599 VS carried the "GTO" badge) 2) They need to lean on the "Testarossa" brand to sell the abomination, I mean car.
Every new Ferrari is always criticized, enthusiasts always need some time to "digest" the new car shape: this one is not bad and improves a lot the SF90 poor design. Design goes on, the new family feeling is the 1968 Daytona front nose: I have to say I like the Ferrari new family feeling. Ciao
What makes you think this car will sound good? I've been trying hard to find a good video demonstration of the sound but can't find one. Any video of the sound I have heard sounds anemic at best - just like all of their other turbo - hybrid cars. By a V10 Lambo instead and save a ton of money!
On both the SF90 and 849- if they would not have screwed up the headlight area (the wings over the lights on the SF90 and the two weird pieces sticking out of the 849 by the lights) the cars would be significantly improved.
Just a poor attempt of chasing Lamborghini and McLaren on their style path. A confusing and tacky body line. The exact opposite of what a Ferrari should be.
Agreed. If they would have just put a V12 with a loud exhaust and a stick shift in this car it would have sold like hotcakes, even with the terrible design. Add a decent design and Ferrari would have had the most desirable new supercar in the market. 0-60 times don't really matter as much to car enthusiasts, especially when you can buy a Tesla.
I recognize here the elements of language from the factory, so let's be clear. When you are a serious designer, you cannot settle for just making front/rear symmetry to succeed in a design; it's a succinct reasoning. You also cannot have such a front spoiler that a mother wouldn't be able to find her children in it... All this reveals a very immature design approach, and it has nothing to do with innovation... At some point, you have to set aside your affinity for Japanese design; Ferrari requires different stylistic codes! A car is not a 'pizza' where you add various elements from other models before mixing it all together !!! Perhaps it's time to ask the right questions at the design center !
Absolutely not, your answer means that Ferrari is always right, and that 25-year-old designers have a brand culture that we do not have. That's false! Being technically skilled in design does not make you a creative, just like being a technically good guitarist does not make you a creative! The problem is that for the majority of customers, the badge is more important than anything. Try putting a Honda badge on this car and you will sell less than 50... and yet it would be strictly the same car, that’s the reality !
I appreciate the thorough response. I understand you don't like it or at least haven't warmed up to it. I firmly don't like it. Lol. I just wanted to comment on your reply regarding the people calling the car a hodgepodge of ideas and that they are pulling from the back catalog. You can do that with cohesion. That is the mastery of a designer. Being able to pull different elements together and make a design cohesive. This isn't cohesive this is abrupt copy and paste. Sorta like this The have made several models that harkened back to their roots and it's still a cohesive design. The 550 is a perfect example of it. The f12 is also a great example. This new era of cars is just a miss design wise. The 812 is not beautiful. The sf90 is not beautiful. It's not bad but it's not beautiful. I am one of the few that likes the 12c though and I like the f80 too. They could have done the 12c a little better but hey I'm not the designer and I'm not a customer having a one off made.
