The problem with the 488 Pista Spider was that Ferrari initially said you couldn't get a car, but at the end of the production run, many customers who only owned one Ferrari also got a Pista Spider. There were significantly more allocations towards the end of production. Dealers also had a say in who got one. Who can guarantee that it won't be the same with the 296 Speciale Aperta and that there won't be further quotas at the end of the production run?

It absolutely doesn’t. It’s not close. I believe your experience with these cars is as far as YouTube or Forums to speak such things.

and it’s not that the 488 or F8 sound as good, or a little worse than the 296, they sound much worse. The F8 is the most disappointing sound experience of my Ferrari driving life.

@Lagunae92 That's the point I've been making all along there's no guarantee that there won't be further quotas towards the end of the production.

it sounds ok, not good. Driven them a lot.

the major sound advantages the 296 has is A. The quality of tone, which is better than 458 much less 488 onwards. And B, the natural progression of sound. 488,458,Pista the valves opening and closing and going from quiet to blaring was my least favorite sound aspect. 296 is a major improvement in how sound naturally builds with revs. And above 5k RPM 296 is incredible. Best sounding mid engined Ferrari in a long time. 458 is louder and more blaring with low quality. But more immersive. I have 10k miles in 458 ownership.

same here , I plan to get both . Although some here seem to hate the 849 design , I think it’s pretty cool if you just take the horizontal black panel between the headlights in body color . I have seen it on the 12C.

I have a 488 Pista ( no OPF ) and it does sound ok , but I found it somewhat underwhelming for a “pista” so I mounted the Akrapovic titanium exhaust with the downpipes , sound really good now .
The 296 sounds really good inside the car , but less good from the outside. Basically with OPF and other sound regulations ( valve system ban ) Ferrari was limited to what the car can produce in sound towards the environment, so they clearly concentrated the sound engineering towards the cabin thus creating a nice sound atmosphere for the occupants.

Finally, someone has articulated what I was thinking. The 296 GTB sounds good from the inside, but not from the outside. The question is, has anything been changed in terms of the 296 Speciale's exterior sound?

As for the speciale , it has extra acoustic ducts for even more sound in the interior , but also a different exhaust and a more sporty tone according to the Ferrari website . So you can expect it to sound better.

on another note , you should look in YouTube there are some videos of the 296 with the Akrapovic exhaust with OPF delete , that sounds really awesome, testifying that the raw V6 engine generates a nicer tone compared to the V8

the reason why someone articulated it for you is because you don’t seem to have any hands on experience with these cars and yet you are arguing with actual owners who have thousands of miles behind the wheel of the cars you are trying to coach them on.

It’s really a no brainer that all sports cars manufactures constrained by restrictions and regulations are engineering a more immersive sound inside the cabins for the occupants to enjoy rather than externally for the crowds to hear, hence all the models manufactured under these restrictions will always sound better inside (where it counts) rather than outside where it would be a problem, so when an owner tells you they enjoy the sound of a 296 accept their opinion because for them that’s fact.

Competizione sounds even louder and better from the outside than from the inside, is also a modern car. A true legend

You may be the only one who thinks a 488 sounds better than a 296. That’s almost universally viewed differently.

I own a 812 Comp Aperta, have you ever driven/been in one in order to make that assessment? I am curious what would make you say that.

    Yeah, that's pretty cool, thanks!

Do these images imply that painting the black vent in front or the windscreen is an option? I'm not sure I would, but I hadn't even considered the possibility.

I agree. I owned a 458 spider for 7 years. Inferior to the 296 in every driving dynamic- and not even close. Also sticky bits and brake failures.

Wait, you've seen a 12C with that section in body color?

Has it been confirmed that you can have it in body color on the 849? I saw one post saying it can be, but wasn't sure if it was credible. Any idea if you'll be allowed to paint the vertical side pieces?

True. There's also been no indication that they will. All the evidence so far seems to suggest that they're following a similar allocation template to what they used for the Pista, but (a) with some shift towards less Apertas and more coupes, and (b) with allocations to the former controlled by the factory.

Yes, if they do it like with the Pista Spider, there will still be some quotas available at a later date. Do you know how many Pista Spiders were built?
    I estimate between 1700 and 2000 cars
