Tire Valve Stems

On my Dino (03932) it seems all 5 valve stems are original. Four are Michelin “1342” and one is Michelin “1446”. They look identical except the printing on the inside. I’d love to know what valve stems are on other Dinos around my chassis #. My spare always had a slow leak and I suspect it could have been a leaky valve stem. Since I’m install new XWX’s I want to fix the potentially leaky valve stem. Before I take it apart, are the O-Rings available? What spec are they and where is a good source? Also..any other tricks sealing the valve stem?

Here’s some better photos of the Michelin 1352 and 1446 valve stems. The 1352 looks like stainless (non-magnetic) and the 1446 is aluminum. My Dino had four 1352’s and one 1446. I decided in the end to buy new valve stems for all five wheels that look identical/same spec for safety and reliability.

Thanks Matthias. My next step is matching the original paint on my wheels (backside). Have you found what the original color silver is?

 

Wow! That’s amazing! I’m going to take one of my wheels and see if a spectrophotometer can help in color matching it.

For the Carbureted wheel, the FERRARI TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE info N°182 say:

Ref./Cromodora Magnesium Wheel Rims
When a respray of magnesium wheels is required, the products to be used are the following:
- Acrylic metallized paint - gray 2427078
(smalto metallizzato acrilico grigio ghisa 2427078)
[ed: literal translation is metallic cast iron gray acrylic enamel]
which can be ordered directly to:
- ITALVAR - Via Privata Bolla, 27 - Milano (Italy)
The paint should be applied with viscosity 37" (Ford type viscosity meter - orifice 3), and baked at 212°F (100°C) for 40 min. in the over or under stoving lamps.

Then, from 1982 to 2007, Glasurit shows that the code is Fer101 / Fer101c Argento Nurburgring.

 

I went to my go-to automotive paint store. We got a close match with a swatch. They’re making me a spray can with a single stage paint. The original back of my rim has super small flake.

I just received the valve stems. Dimensionally identical. Made of aluminum. Looks like they’ll work great!

I won’t be concouring my Dino anytime soon! The originals will be safely packed away. For me, the decision was safety and reliability with an accurate look.

 

Another job we’re tackling are restoring the original hubcaps. My fiend Simon Leach the panel beater is methodically removing all the years of dings and scratches. They will then be polished. This was worst of the four. I have new accurate badges from Rob Calisi.

The caps look interesting. The tire valves I found are dimensionally and visually accurate to the original Michelin tire valves. Is there a photo of a verified original Dino valve cap?
