First time Ferrari buyer...with family

The Lusso T may be the best deal right now in all of sports cars. They've been steadily dropping a bit whereas the V12s have been appreciating slightly (I think the appreciating FF market has been pushing them up a bit). You don't need AWD in Miami, and the V8 has more torque for daily driving than the V12.

As far as the seats, I'd definitely spend some time the Lusso before pulling the trigger. The seats are notoriously firm. I daily one, and on drives longer than an hour, I find myself shifting around a bit. But for normal driving they're fine.

The pano roof isn't as cool of a feature as most think. It's behind the head of the front seat passengers essentially. It's kind of cool for the back seat passengers, but that's it.

If you can find the ventilated seats, go for it. I live in Southern Alabama, and I don't have them. A good ceramic tint makes a bigger difference.

CarPlay isn't that common of an option, but there are also aftermarket systems that will add it for you too. The dealer charges something like $6k to add it...
FF is much easier to add an aftermarket deck, however.

I'd have to have somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the lifter is just a temporary thing for getting in an out of driveways etc. I don't think you can just drive around at speed with it lifted... so probably won't make a difference for potholes etc. The Lusso isn't that low to begin with.

Might be able to get a steal on this one with the miles. Sock the extra $ away for repairs instead of a warranty.

No correction required: The lift deactivates above 25mph/40kph.

 

I think a lusso t makes sense in Miami. Saves you the potential headache of the ptu also.

I agree 100% on the nose lifter. I have one on my ff and I use it all the time.

I honestly would skip the pano roof. I don’t miss not having one and I think in Miami it would get hot unless you tinted the heck out of it.

if you’re going to daily it, I would not be afraid of a higher mileage example if the paints in good shape and it has been properly serviced.

Did you read this forum about these cars in terms of reliability? You want the family car to work every time you start it. Its a cool weekend car, one that when it doesnt work could be annoyance but if you have alternate means of transportation, not a big deal. But if this is your only car, I dont think your wife will be happy.

 

I’ve put 20k miles on my Lusso in the past 2yrs. Daily drive it. Never left me stranded.
They’re by no means Honda/Toyota reliability, but from a mechanical standpoint, they’re pretty reliable. The V12 has been around for 20+ years at this point.

 

I would daily my ff without a second thought if i could get away with parking it at work every day.

 

I daily a 612 OTO and I have put 80,000 miles on it in the last four years...the biggest expense by far has been fuel.

My youngest son has done 60,000 of those miles with me.

Drive them regularly and normally and they will take care of you no matter 612, FF, or Lusso.

My wife has an SUV but the 612 is my only car and we take it on all the family vacations as well.

The maintenance will vary year to year depending on the miles (and years since new). The "cheap" ones are like $1500 and the "big" ones are like $5500 depending on what's due. I've found most independent shops (save for a couple) don't have a ton of experience with Lussos (they're rare overall), and typically aren't any cheaper than the dealership (at least in Atlanta). The good thing is that you can just call your local dealer and ask what each service costs for each year coming up. They're pretty standardized.

 

Definitely have either a dealer or a good Indy shop do a PPI - there aren’t any like “huge” things to look out for.
You can get it serviced anywhere you want - places that are familiar with them will probably be a little quicker with things and may charge you less overall… sometimes you just get stuck with the “3 hours” of book time for a better change.

 

I have an FF without lifter and we have a lot of speed bumps. I’ve never scraped the car, it’s better than my Quattroporte. It will be handy if you have a steep driveway, but it will have to be pretty steep for you to really need one. I would say a “nice to have” but certainly not a “must have”.

If you can, get it inspected by a dealer, if the warranty/service is nearly due, you can make a deal to do it as part of their normal warranty/service inspection. I did that with mine.

 

if you can, join the ferrari club of america in your region. do it before you buy your car. you'll meet people who can direct you to the right shops. you might even find a car locally. we have cars change hands off market all the time.

jonrolly. I drive a 2019 Lusso T, I am in Palm Beach County. I think the Pano roof is more or less a must, get PPF on it. I agree with your other requirements as well. I looked for a while and found my "perfect" car in San Francisco. There are not too many out there and every one is different. We have a WhatsApp group of Lusso owners, now around 40. I do not daily mine but have put 6,000 miles on it in less than a year, one guy has put 40k on his in 24 months. I was in Miami with FCA a couple of weeks ago and we had 3 Lusso T's together. Shields are the yellow Ferrari "badges " on the fenders. Capristo controller is to operate the exhaust valves.

I own a 612, but I've thought about a Lusso or GTC4... I have put about 40,000 miles on my 612, though. The only issue with daily driving it is that if there is an issue with it, it can take a while for parts to come in, etc. However, if the dealer will give you a loaner (mine generally won't), then that's not a big deal.

 

Was going to add if you want the shields you can't retrofit them as they are recessed into the car, mixed opinions, some folks say are a must on the sports but not as much on the tourers - each to their own.

 

Correction: you can retrofit shields, it’s just expensive as you need new fenders. Some people use aftermarket shields that stick on but most would agree those don’t look good.
