Scuderia Ferrari 2025

I was surprised to see Porsche mentioned as competitor to Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren.
I read in L'Automobile Magazine (French), that since 1947, Ferrari has produced around 330 000 cars.
In 2024, Porsche sold 314 000 vehicles; it means that in 80 years, Ferrari has sold slightly more cars than Porsche IN ONE YEAR !!
They are definitely not in the same league.

The production numbers quoted by L'Automobile for 2024 are:
- Porsche 314 000
- Ferrari 13 752
- Lamborghini 10 687
- Maserati 7250
- Aston Martin 6620
- McLaren estimated 3200 ?

You can take a 1979 Porsche and put it side-by-side to a 2025 Porsche and you can automatically see the lines. Amazing what Porsche has done with the "911" lineage.

 

Ferrari logic: Ok let’s design the 2026 car to ride too high. 2 wrongs = right (no?)

 

At this stage why doesn't Ferrari hire an independent team to Run the F1 operation... AF Corse seem to be doing a sterling job in WEC despite the FIA's best attempts to slow them down.

The 499P has proven that it is not a lack of engineering talent, Ferrari know how to build fast racing cars.

It is a political and management issue.

It wont happen I know, but.....When you think about it... it cant be any worse.

 

For me, that's part of the attraction at Porsche.
The same 911 "rear line" (for lack of a better definition) is also seen on the Cayman, even on the Taycan.
Porsche has a winning style, and they don't bother to re-invent all the time like other carmakers.
Also, against the odds and the critics, they are the only one to still win with a rear engine .

When people choose to buy Porsches instead of a Ferrari, they are competition. I think your example makes it seem even worse since the Ferrari should be far more valuable based on scarcity alone. But the market says differently.

Try to go order a new GT3 in the US - as just one example. You are going to pay 50-100k over MSRP (On a ~250k car). They are commanding more than Ferraris despite the huge production numbers. They are doing better in the secondary market as well. Many models will sell for above MSRP with miles whereas Ferraris are depreciating and/or not commanding premiums. Look at SF90 prices which have fallen off a cliff. 812 prices are down substantially from 2 years ago as well. Then there are "modern-classic" Porsches which are insane as well, whereas modern-classic Ferraris are still good deals.

This is why some label Porsche owners as "cult members" because they cannot explain why they are paying so much given the production numbers.

Maybe they just realize they are great cars, so the supply evaporates despite the massive number of cars.

To be fair though - you also have to realize that a huge chunk of that Porsche production number is cars that will depreciate badly - like sedans and suvs.
