I'm kind of baffled as to why the S-Line unvalved would sound drastically different from the Kline with valves open. Since both are unmuffled X-pipes. I'd like to have the option of valves but it sounds like the S-Line valves aren't very effective. I also have no intention of swapping out my stock 2nd cats yet (have Fabspeed headers) so I'm kind of worried that Kline won't give the scream that I want that S-Line will give. I don't mind loud all the time, but it would be nice to do my neighbors a favor.
Going from 200 cell cats to 100 cell cats shouldn't change the tone at all, it should just make it louder unless I'm mistaken. I actually don't want it getting any louder. The way they describe this header seems in line with how I described my Larini a few posts ago. "fuller exhaust note" and "better mid range response" are the two main things I mentioned the Larini did. Specifically I said "sound did get smoother/richer" and "I was actually caught off guard with how quickly it accelerated" This gives me a bit more confidence in my descriptions/experience considering this manifold seems quite similar to the Larini. Both are 4-2-1 stainless with inconel shielding. I've attached some pictures of the Larini btw. It really is a beautiful piece of metallic artwork and I recommend it to anyone looking for a 4-2-1 manifold. Video/audio in a few days and then you all can really know how it sounds Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice! Looks like they still offer full bespoke shielding. It isn’t as “full” for the 355 manifolds. I’m probably the last person with 355 manifolds they did full bespoke shielding.
Regarding cats… I would say it does give a lil more volume and F1 pitch as you move closer to straight pipes. I don’t have direct experience with 200 cell cats on the Scud, but going from 100 cell to straight pipes gave roughly 10-15% more volume and pitch. Not a whole lot, but it’s there. I’m not sure what % increase from 200 cell to 100 cell cats would be, but Felix from Kline himself (I think he’s the owner) isn’t too favorable towards the 200 cells with his system. He tends to push 100 cell cats, hence you are more likely to see Youtubers running Kline with 100 cell cats. 200 cells are standardized in the industry and less problematic for CELs. Anything below needs a fooler or a tune. It’s more hassle. Here is a part of an email exchange I had with Felix when I acquired my system in 2017. The last was a response to a debate between 200 cell or 100 cell. I had already placed an order for 200 cell cats, but he convinced me to get 100 cell.
Here’s an old post from RichardCH who also ran Capristo headers + 100 cell cats + Kline Inconel on his Scud. I guess he ran 200 cell at one point. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I noticed that when I read it again. It’s been a min. Kline manifolds were indeed available at the time. *I already had Capristo manifolds installed before inquiring for Kline parts. Tubi & Larini 4-2-1 manifolds were not on the market at the time. Capristo was the only 4-2-1 option. Or 430 challenge headers, which I wasn’t aware of at the time.
It is odd how it is so different, but it is. I assume different lengths and materials. One good example I remember well...when I had the un-valved SLine system, low rpms sounded awful. Like taking off from a start was embarrassing IMO. Freaking hated it one time while I was in traffic in California for like an hour. Every time I had to start accelerating again I couldn't help but think what the heck people were thinking of how ****ty and loud my car sounded. Haha. With the Kline inconel it is NOT that at all now. It sounds totally different and really nice and clean even from a start. Then this metallic ping starts to hit at around 2,200rpm and up and it's pure music. I find myself almost always driving 100% un-valved now and am so happy with the switch.
