The model is profiled in the Off Duty section of the weekend WSJ edition. I enjoy Dan Neil’s reviews but wish he’d noted what was added to the cars $459,000 base price to bring it to the as tested price of $704,837.

What were the items that account for the 245,837 dollars?

The Montecarlo paint is made by hand in Monaco by true Monagasques whose bloodline can be traced back 100 years or more. Real gold is used to create the color. The current spot price recently topped 4300 USD. The color is very rich.

Dan Neil is a serious automotive journalist who doesn't take himself too seriously. He provides all the Ferrari facts in an arms length style which is not to say he doesn't have lots of Ferrari drives under his belt; he does. Perhaps it is all that Ferrari experience that allows him to see through the breathless gloss. Always an entertaining read.
Then there was the time Dan drove a new Ferrari in Maranello during the winter. Dan was trying to navigate the Ferrari down a freshly snow covered ramp. Dan had his photographer on the ramp to capture the garage picture. Unfortunately the photographer slipped and fell in the snow and missed the shot. Discretion won out and the new Ferrari was safely tucked away in the garage for the night.

Dan Neil is my favorite auto reviewer. He's funny, even when I disagree with him: "Do I crave the fellowship of other Ferrari owners? Have you met a lot of Ferrari owners? "
