I am convinced it is air in the system. But can't test that until I get the car back together since I got sidetracked doing some seals and an alternator, then noticed two cracked cam pulleys. Time for major work ugh

I looked at the hose diagram. Two lines run under the car from engine to radiator and back. The heaters are up high. I either have some air trapped in those smaller diameter lines or a tiny leak letting air in. Might pull the line off the top of the engine to check if it's blocked.

I went for an early fall drive and I just found out on my new to me 85 GTSI that I am getting no heat. After reading the above posts I suspect an air lock. I am getting plenty of air flow from the blowers but the hoses to the heater boxes are barely warm., Is there a possibility the heater cores themselves are plugged? Any suggestions much appreciated. I'll try disconnecting the heater hose and see if there is any flow

More likely that the fitting on the engine water crossover pipe that supplies the hot water to the front area is corroded closed or obstructed (if you know the hot water valve is opening correctly) -- fitting 26 here:

If you do a search on the F part number of 106241, you should get a lot of prior threads with posts of (horrible) pictures like in this one:

(On the 2-valve cars, that fitting is in a different location on the cylinder head, but same corrosion issue.)

I have had an airlock in the heater system on a 328 after a coolant change. Bleeding it at the heater box behind the spare wheel surround solved it.
