I'll concede one thing to Verstappen, he sparks up a good debate on here & F1 generally. He should be paid extra
Brundle lost the plot long ago, objective as he was in the past, now he's just another reporter who cannot stand the fact that there's a non British driver out there who outclass all others.
But giving the place back is totally meaningless. It's just like if you are given a blanc cheque to reoffend again !
It's a bad idea to use the nationality card to support one's opinion, IMO. As F1 followers, we should be capable to judge a driving fault on its merit, not be influenced by the nationality, race or creed of the one who commits it. I would be the first one to accept that Max is "head and shoulders" above the pack, but even that doesn't absolve him when he goes "beyond the pale" sometimes. People have different views, and that's OK. We should be able to accept that without turning this forum into a slanging match.
+1 Brundle is more than complimentary and gives credit where its due. I have zero issues with him and he has more than enough experience to report in a decent manner. Ive seen far worse. If you ever do talk to him in person that comes across quickly. Same for Damon. Have had nice chats with both.
Agree - Overall the Sky team do a good job, some get over exicited but thats their job to promote the game, even a slight bit of nationalism is agreeable, for me anyway but some take it as a insult. Not so sure about Patrick or Collins I like Brundle, its difficult to be a commentator and not slip up from time to time like Damon Hill, most of what he said was accurate, slight bias but again acceptable. Unfortunately he fell foul of the woke brigade baying for blood. Its on the rise I fear. Rosberg & Chandhok are good commentators as well as Villeneuve , he does exactly what it says on the tin. Not so sure about Button. Davidson is a good analyst is there anything that really competes with Sky's F! global coverage !
Ant is a good objective analyst. I enjoy his critique's/ analysis. No team of reporters will be perfect.
The F1TV Pro app is light years better IMHO. This season is my second year not watching Sky and I'll never go back. Hopefully Apple doesn't screw it up or I'll have to watch on mute.
Speak for yourself. There are plenty of people here with amateur and pro racing experience. None of which should be required to have an opinion on an F1 discussion board.
Leclerc was squeezed by Hamilton as well. So really it’s Hamilton fault I knew having the Ferraris in front of max was gonna be a problem after qualifying. Especially with baby lueys ego.
When you say deliberately do you mean Max was fully intending to cut the track since the start of the race? You can believe it, but there isn't any proof it was premeditated. However there is evidence that supports why he would be unable to make the corner and the option to bail out over the grass was better than attempting to make the corner. Since we have the luxury of hindsight, lets pretend Max tried to make the corner: 1) Max was the only driver that locked a tire and thus already would overshoot the corner because he was decelerating at a much higher rate than the other 3. So no matter what he wasn't going to hit the apex and would go off track. 2) It's already 3 wide going into the corner, is there room for 4 go through? Not really, at least not without tremendous risk of collision. 3) We know Charles took his car right to the boundaries of track limits on the exit of T1, so we know Max would be forced off the track anyways. 4) We know Charles got a snap of oversteer which directed his car through the grass and he made the choice to bail out and cut the grass as well. That's a nearly guaranteed collision if Max had been there trying to make the corner. Sounds like a heads up smart decision by Max to cut over the grass. It's not illegal to do so and he didn't keep any lasting advantage, so fair play. Charles chose the bail out, as did Kimi Antonelli on lap 1. At least one of the 3 that went over the grass probably prevented a collision. Lewis also chose to bail out. He out-braked himself and missed the corner and failed to make even the access road and chose to bail out over the grass, cutting the track as well. Since we have the luxury of hindsight, we know Max also out-braked himself and went at least partially off track and had Lewis attempted to make the corner he would have either crashed into Max or been pushed off into the grass at a very precarious angle meaning a high probability of a loss of control. So again, a pretty heads up and wise decision by Lewis to cut the grass. I agree with you that there should be some changes made to the track that makes cutting the grass less of a no brainer. I think @Bas had a decent first draft solution of putting more pavement in a run off and then an access road with a foam chicane that drivers must use to re-enter the track. This would certainly cost the driver a few seconds of time. We see people bail out of the corner at Monza all the time but they have to go through the chicane before rejoining and it seems to self police pretty well. The lawn mowing at Mexico is definitely a track specific problem more than an FIA rules problem, and not a driver problem. I think you and I both were outraged at the track limits around Austria in the past and at least we have seen some changes for the better as they put some gravel traps there which has greatly reduced the amount of track limits. Hopefully there will be some changes made at Mexico for next year.
You might be right but where do you draw the line of which off-tracks get penalized and which don't? Charles went off track onto pavement, without his oversteer he is still in the race and has position for T2. Lewis got driven off the track in the same spot and yet was side by side with Max into T2. Where was his punishment? Lewis went off the track and cut the grass out of T4, there was no punishment there. There are a handful of corners on every track where drivers often go off track, sometimes by an inch and sometimes by a whole field or parking lot. There is no single rule that can apply to any and every part of a track. I think track limits was a huge step in the right direction since drivers used to go outside the painted lines all the time. When drivers are pushing the limits, I think the 3 strike rule is a fair compromise. I think some tracks and some corners need more refinement to prevent easy bail outs like Mexico, hopefully that eventually happen. Funny enough, the organizers of F1 just need to drive the tracks on their Formula 1 game to quickly see where cars can gain by cutting the track with ease. Then a simple drawing on a napkin over lunch would be enough to get a solution started. But hey, that's F1 for you.
what makes you beleive i dont have racing experience, I just dont elevate myself to have F1 capability.
never heard of it, good luck with Apple as well, if they grab it in the Uk I'll go back to just watching the highlights or stop altogether.
When Max realised he wouldn't make the corner on the track, because of the carfuffle on his right, he should have slowed down and fall in line behind the 2 or 3 other cars. That's what racers do when the cannot terminate an overtaking they anticipated. Instead, he took the option of going "hell for leather" deliberately off course and take a chance through the grass. A case of red mist, IMO. The FIA is the ruling body responsible to check that circuits are fit for purpose before granting them licences. They would be in their rights (and obligations) to impose the Mexico circuit owner to alter the course in areas that cause issues before renewing the licence. But they don't.
You should check it out. It's really good. Best of all you can pick your own feed and have multiples. I have four TV's hooked up to it so I can watch the overall race on one, telemetry/timing on another and can pick my in cars for the other two. Sadly I think when Apple takes over it's going away.
I'll make another statement on this, he stirs up this much doing things according to the rules, no wonder people keep dragging up things that he's done wrong in the past.
