Remove rear grill louvers for better cooling?

Be careful that they do not protect bumper from melting from heat from mufflers or wires etc .. every part has be designed with something in mind

 

That piece is designed to be there, either to protect something like @flash32 said, to direct air to or away from something, or for some other reason. They are a very specific shape in a specific area. I would leave them.

 

Interesting fact: the 430 Scuderia did not come with those deflectors, but F430s with the rear challenge grill still had them installed.

 

I took mine off maybe 3 years ago. It's better for the heat to escape thru the rear carbon grill. I also added these 16m grills for the engine lid along with naca ducts in the undertray to scoop up air as i go down the road. Ive now have maximum air flow in and out of the engine bay

Would you mind measuring the rhomboid shaped opening of the grille for me?

 

I took mine off a year ago on my f430 with the challenge grill. Does appear to be for reflection prevention. When I drive over white road arrows/markings I get a pretty good reflection off the back glass. Startled me at first, but now is expected. I haven’t noticed any issues as of yet and would assume that the heat now has an easier time exiting the back of the car.

 

I removed mine for better cooling.
I wrapped the latch cable and wire in some heat insulation.

I wonder why the Scud doesn't have the reflection problem. Kdedrick said the Scud doesn't have them.

 

Maybe the plexiglass is less reflective? I’m not sure…

 

Are these NACA ducts original or aftermarket? They’re impossible to find in OEM, so it’s probably better to use the ones from Scuderia, which were wind-tunnel tested.

 

i custom made my own and I put a half inch lip on mine to help scoop up air as I go down the road. You can see the lip sticking down in the first pic

yea I got the idea from the scuderia under tray, but I made it a little different. Maybe a little better. instead of buying a scud under tray and good luck finding one anyways, I decided to just make my own and it works very well. there's no aerodynamic noise whatsoever.
Why would that be happeningnety

 

Let’s say our cars are wind-tunnel tested, and certain exterior modifications can have consequences or constraints we don’t fully control.

But I’m glad to hear it’s working perfectly.

Good cooling should improve engine efficiency.

 

I have mine removed too, it looks much better!

 

I learn something new everyday ... my gut still tells me not to remove - lol - i don't have them on my scud but if i did i wouldn't remove - i am silly like that

 

Take them off dominic, you will go faster lol

 

Mine were looking shabby so I powder coated them - I'm not removing them now that they're PRETTY!

They are not for cooling, or heat shield. They are for glare in the rear view mirror. Seriously

I thought it was glare for the guy behind you. Can’t really see them in the spider from your rearview.

 

Huh. I would have thought they were for air flow or heat blocking.
