458 pricing up?

Yes it's true. Increasing awareness of special nature of 458's NA engine + last Pininfarina design, combined w/now difficult to find nice examples. I no longer post on this topic as it always seems to irk 488 owners for some reason, who will predictably troll.

 

It doesn't irk me, and I don't like to "troll"...I had a 458, now a 488. I am fully aware that the 458 will most likely hold its value better and/or increase more than the 488 over time. That doesn't negate the fact that I love my 488 (as many others do) and actually enjoy driving it more than the 458. I do miss the sound above 6,000 RPM's on the 458, I can't lie. But I like everything else better on the 488. Thankfully, I'm one of those people that say that I buy cars to enjoy losing my money. If I didn't have that attitude, I would be really upset that I got rid of my 458! It's no secret that the 488 is at the bottom of the collectability scale at this time. But in my opinion, it wins the value / bang for the buck award, by far! So please don't lump all 488 owners into trolls. Some of us can remove the emotion and see the positive and negative traits of each car. There is no such thing as a perfect car, I wish there was. But that would be boring because we would all own the same car. So, people need to buy the car that satisfies them the most, not the one that is the most universally accepted by the community or the most valuable.
To the OP, it's not abnormal to buy a Ferrari and its value increases, or have it depreciate very little (less than a Hyundai).

 

No argument from me. 488 is a great car. On the autobahn, it's hp is usable and more drama-free than the 458.

 

I too noticed that the prices were up significantly in just the last 6 months. And I monitor 458 prices on a regular basis. Bought my 458 Italia almost 10 years ago and now it has 22k miles on it. Never actually thought it would be an investment, but it's now worth substantially more than I paid for it even with the mileage.

 

I was also surprised, and it definitely is a nice benefit to owning a Ferrari vs most other brands. Even if it goes down slightly, or stays the same and doesn't appreciate, it's still a huge win when dealing with cars.
Of course if it goes up, then you feel like you won the lottery!

 

I have had multiple offers on my very well equipped Spider , even though I have no intention of selling it. My friend just sold his with 18k miles on it for plus $300k.

 

I've never understood why this issue irks some 488 owners any more than I understand why it makes some 458 owners feel as if they have to defend the 458. I own a 458 spider and I love it! If given the opportunity, resources and space I would love to own a 488 as well! Why the hell not - they are both awesome! Throw in a 812 GTS and a 250 swb while your at it. Everyone likes what they like and buys what they buy for their own reasons. The 458 market is just that "a market" it could care less about your or my feelings.

 

Good spec, carbon fiber seats, low mileage, few owners, desirable paint and interior colors, no accidents, zero mods, and no tune: pricing is stable, maybe a slight trend upward.

What my admittedly untrained eye sees is a decidedly upward trend in pricing for cars with a “story” or some drama attached: higher miles, mods, accidents, resprays, multiple owners etc etc etc. That is where I see the most change in pricing. Buyers are more willing now than ever to overlook the small stuff.
