Clarification FYI..........all early 930 VIN's start with 930, the same way as early 911 VIN's start with 911, as do the 914's.......928's......924's.......etc.......

But, 1981 and all later cars built for North America and 2-3 other countries have WP0XXXXXXXXXXXXXX only and the ROW markets have WP0ZZZXXXXXXXXXXX only..............having said that, the VIN pressed into the metal of the firewall of all cars, including North American ones, is always WP0ZZZ regardless of country of destination.

The VIN plaque on the a-pillar and the one riveted to the passenger side frame rail under the front trunk, as described above, has WP0XXXXXXXXXXXXXX for North American cars.

    Confusing.....yes.

Wow…I am shocked that I found this thread. And I see that it’s from over a decade ago but I just have to comment.

This purple 1986 DP Motorsport Porsche is mine. I inherited it from my father when he passed in 2016. I’m grateful the OP was not able to convince my Dad to sell it to him since I’d already claimed it as mine lol

It is in fact a real DP modification. We obtained that paperwork direct from DP. I wish I could confirm that it was once owned by Michael Andretti. My Dad said that he had a magazine with an article about the car but I was unable to locate it after he passed.

Trying to find a way to confirm that it was given to Michael Andretti as a bonus from his racing team is why I stumbled upon this thread.

Anyway, I have always been a Porsche fan and I love this car. One last note, the purple is not the original colour. It was originally a blue.

The Andretti's are pretty active on social media like twitter. Maybe take some fresh pictures of the car and some paperwork and try that avenue.

To continue with the thread, I just bought this DP targa! It is a normally aspirated car with no paperwork, but it was purchased new and imported by Fred Opert Racing which is a clue that it’s the real deal! I hate the wheels on it and I may do something with them before I sell it on BAT!

Great looking car. I would highly recommend you contact DP and see if they can certify it.
