Murcielago, last of the mechanical Supercars

What about it makes it the last mechanical supercar? Like 98% of them have automated transmissions, all have electronic brake force distribution, ABS, and traction control.

Probably, early Diablos or even the last carbed Countach would be a better choice. But then again, that kind of title isn't even worth a plastic trophy.

 

To be fair the Diablo is a terrible driver that’s why special ones like the se30 still aren’t crazy money. If the Diablo was a good car they’d all be way more money than they trade at.

 

High 6 figures is still strong to me. I've ridden in 4-5 but only driven my own early RWD, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoy it. And it is better than the Testarossa in every quantifiable way. Other than 'cupholder' space.

As to OP, I think the market is firming up a bit, especially with the quick-turnaround manual conversions available. As a 'final manual' car, it's going to find a special place in history.

What did you find that requires you to be fair and rate the Diablo as a terrible driver, please do explain.

To me, in general, the main driver of 'value' of such cars is the following of the manufacturer. Porsche and Ferrari have vast and deep pools of followers..

And, the SE30 value is generally above any other Diablo model, recently, several trading for over $1m and pretty much every one produced is currently valued above original msrp (not including cars with branded titles).

 

I had many rides in a 1999 roadster my best friend owns over the years, its just a terrible ride, I've driven it a few times and I fully get why the diablo looks so good, is incredibly rare, and yet not that valuable. The murcielago is a great car, could be argued a manual SV is the best car ever made and if I was a betting man I would bet a manual SV should it ever appear at auction would post a silly figure. Think about it, there's 7 for the world? I know an SE30 right now for sale for $825k if you would like I can send it to you, I think it's 20k miles or so. For a car that's generally considered one of the rarest of the diablo and prob the most valuable aside from a GT, that isn't crazy money. I think it speaks to the lack of interest from buyers.

do you own one is that why you're so defensive? The market is speaking, look how rare a diablo roadster is and yet it's worth how much? These things should be sky high in value considering how rare they are and they just aren't, meanwhile the murcielago that the OP noted, the manual ones which were standard in 2002-03 are all trading for $400k+ today even though you were ranting that the OP was wrong. The murcielago is just a better car, the market is speaking.

The ride sucks, go ride in a murcielago and a diablo and you would know why diablo is not that cool. Look diablo and countach are some of the best looking cars ever made, nobody is arguing that, but there's a reason that neither really ever went up in value, nobody wants to buy them to use them. A countach 89 anniversary car is one of the best lookers ever yet it's not worth much. Even all the rare countaches, not big money meanwhile look at values that manual LP640, manual LP640 roadsters, and Murcielago SV are trading for. The people want exotics that are rare but also usable now.

If you use google its pretty easy to see what SE30 are for sale in the US right now its $850k ask which means you can have it easily for 825 or less. It sold on bringatrailer for half that 4-5 years ago so the price isn't shocking to me. 850k is less than a revuelto today and still nobody seems to care its been listed for a while.

 

So a 100% price increase in 4-5 years, with driver examples nearing 1 million USD. I think the market is speaking, but you are not listening Hint: it's not about how cool you think they are

 

Ya that’s why a 99 Diablo roadster where a few hundred made is less than a new temerario where thousands upon thousands will be made.

 

Your friend must have had a crappy neglected car, and I came accross many neglected cars when I was looking 12 years ago. My '99 Roadster is flat out AMAZING to drive.

 

Actually, they made 142 '99 Diablo Roadsters (including the leftover milleniums). Recently, a good (but not great) '99 sold for $550k on BAT, which is more than the temmerarios I've priced out.

They have increased in price over 3X since I bought mine, with plenty of upward headroom for future growth.

I drove a LP-640 Murcielago once....and it was bland and boring with a lame transmission. You could see all the Audi influence inside the car. The Aventador is a MUCH better car.

 

That’s cool, so how come they’re really not worth much considering their rarity? You’d think a super rare car that was the poster car for everyone 45 years old and in their prime would be worth big money today yet they’re less than a new loaded entry level temerario. Weird right? Even nice 6.0 cars are barely $700k which considering how rare they are is wild. The market is the market and it just doesn’t value diablos the way it does manual murcielago or even e gear murcielago av

 

The manual murcielago lp640 went up how much in that timeframe? 300%? The sv with e gear 200%?

 

I'm very happy with what my car is worth today and knowing its future potential. All Diablo prices were held in check by Countach prices for a long time, so when they started to move so did the Diablo (I remember I could buy '97 or '98 Roadsters for sub-$70k only 13 years ago).....but just like a Countach will never surpass Miura pricing, the Diablo will follow the Countach

Now that manual conversions are available, watch those Murcielago manual prices fall. That was a weird spike....
