Another once-upon-a-time blue Ferrari 250 GTO, S/N 3987 GT. Originally red, repainted blue when owned and raced by John Mecom. This was the first GTO I saw racing, in May 1963 at Pensacola being driven by Roger Penske. He beat the Shelby Cobras in the GT race.

Actually only eight of the 250 GTOs were RHD, and all of them were delivered new to the U.K. The 28 250 GTOs delivered to other countries were all LHD.

So there are 250 GTOs with the fuel filler on the right side, correct?

Interesting link: One replica on Porsche basis (hard to judge from the pics) and one beautiful recreation on 330 basis with a full 12 cylinder engine.

My recollection is that 3223 was the only one that originally came without the spoiler. Bodin confirmed that when he gave me a ride in the car. :) At the time (early '86) the spoiler was bolted on, but I think the configuration had changed back and forth before then and probably has since.

I remember a short time ago when you were this impressed by a Diablo.

Yeah, that was a nice place. I wished the cars weren't as boxed in and of course taking pictures would have been allowed...

I heard about that film, that's all I know.

They take these cars at least once a year onto the remake of the Mille Miglia. Good to know somebody drives these beauties.

Did you get a bottle of their 250 GTO wine?

Actually, both 3223GT and 3387GT were completed without the rear spoiler. 3223GT was presented to the press in that configuration in early 1962 but both cars had spoilers riveted on before seeing any competition use. There were many photos of 3387GT with the riveted-on spoiler taken in 1962 at Sebring, Le Mans, etc. In fact, it wasn't only riveted on, it didn't even cover the full width of the rear end as the integrated ones do. It was only slightly wider that the rear boot lid.

If this one is easily recognizable to you, then you must really know the 250 GTO well. Good for you. My eye isn't that trained, heck I did even recognize the one Tom Cruise drove on Times Square (nowadays I would, but back then I didn't).

    Welcome to the board btw.

The car is a very good looking well done car. To bad the sellers are who they are. Is there any more info on this car other than ebay? Anyone actually SEEN this car for real?

Thanks. I was looking for a thread or topic on this forum where one can introduce oneself, but there doesn't seem to be one?

At F40lover: I've seen s/n 4003 in the flesh back in 1997 at the Coys International Historic Festival. I'ts not bad, but as I've seen many real GTOs some details give it away (although I have to add that some real GTOs have had rebodies and they don't allways look that good either).

Not really. But you could put a picture of your car into the "Show me your car" thread.
