    Hi Christian welcome to Fchat.
I would be great to see this Countach reborn, can you post pictures?

You live a very beautiful part of the world, but I'm sure you already realise that ;)

Welcome and nice find. You are not taking the easy way. Parts are very very expensive depending what you have to do. Many here can help. One guy in Dubai is completly resotring his 500S himself, He is mostly on another forum. (lam.. pow..). Cant list it on this site. He has a big thread.
Start by Getting a part manual. There are plenty of copies around for grab. Raymond Stoffer from Switzerland has them all.
Your car seem to have an interesting life. Post pictures and Vin. Looks like a car noone has seen before here unless they took a drive with Mobutu which is not necessarily something to look for.

It appears to me that in the 70s & 80s Dictators of Third World countries where most of the roads weren't even paved and majority of the population couldn't even afford any sort of car, just had to have Lamborghinis!

Still, its really cool to see this one is being rescued.

It looks like you have quite a project on your hands.

What is your plan for the camshaft journal that you are using the expanding reamer on? Those journals become scored/galled from oil starvation and excessive chain tension. A proper repair involves precise line-boring and fitting bearing inserts.

Please provide more photos and I'll try to advise. It is very difficult to decipher your broken English.

If you had any significant amount of water in the oil the main and connecting rod bearings are probably ruined as well. Failed water pump seals are a frequent problem in old Lamborghinis

The camshaft damage is not from water and reaming it without replacing the lost metal isn't a permanent fix. I have attached a picture of a proper repair but it can't be done with a hand reamer.

Apparently you have damage to a piston and cylinder head from a foreign object. The rusted studs are from a leaking head gasket (common problem as well). I recommend that the engine be completely disassembled as there are almost certainly a few other serious problems that you haven't seen yet.

The small holes in the cylinder head port appear to be pinholes caused during the casting process. It's not the best but not unusual.

You are a candidate for a complete engine rebuild. Expensive but necessary.

    Amicalement scoraf

Translation for our English speaking friends: ( I'll try to do my best! )

As I said earlier, I realize little by little all the amount of work this restoration implies with this Countach that sitted for about ten years; to previous owner did not touch it since he bought an Audi R8 V10. Lucky guy.

It was a childhood dream to own a Lamborghini and strong with experience acquired with Renault engines it gave me all the necessary motivation to handle such a project; to see myself playing/learning the role of a Lambo mechanic!

A situation now easier since I have the maintenance manual.

Today I tried to discover why water leaked into oil. I found that this was caused by a defective water pump seal which is now completely rusted.

I also tried to explain why the studs were rusted? I have also noticed that there was signs of porosity in the aluminum when I looked in the stud holes; could this be a consequence of presence of water coming from the cooling system?

I will try to verify the aluminum integrity against leakage with some fixer and revealing chemical products next week.

Next week I'll be done with cylinder heads; a good thing because I need space in my garage. I will also check the camshaft bushings (?).

I know this engine will need lots of attention and work and that it is difficult to find competent mechanics here at La Réunion Island so I have to try to do myself most of the job.

Adding bushings ( or fitting inserts like 2NA said ) is the best approach but impossible to do here now, so I will go for now with only bore adjustments ( translator note: not to confound with boring :) ).

I now that I will need a complete set of gaskets (?). Anybody knows a place to find them at a cheap price?

And I am sorry for my English.

    End of translation.

    Hope this will help!

    Cheers everybody!

There is no "cheap price" for anything Lamborghini. Head gaskets are particularly expensive and only available a few places.

Since you are in Europe it might make sense to try this company directly.

    http://www.sangalliguarnizioni.com/inglese/dove.html

As I mentioned before casting porosity is not uncommon on these engines. It may be repairable by TIG welding but in cases where it isn't causing a leak or structural problem it is best left alone.

The water pump is not a complicated assembly but it can be surprisingly difficult to rebuild one that is heavily corroded and not have it leak again immediately. The Countach has the advantage that the pump is a completely separate part and can be assembled and tested before installing in the engine. Be careful to repair this correctly and be sure that the "weep hole" is clear of debris.

    Translation;

Today I worked on cylinder head no. 2, no bad surprises at all, oooooffff, tomorrow I will try to complete polishing of intake and exhaust system.

Yes I have the rear wheels which I am now fixing before sending them to the paintshop.

Anybody knows the color code for copper finish?

Another question, anbody tried to put a Kevlar disc on their Countach ( translator note: maybe he is referring to a Kevlar clutch ??? )

Is it worth it or not?

I am also looking to find pre 5000 QV rocker panels because I do not like those on the 25th Anniversary.

    Thanks in advance.

Next weekend I will post pictures of crankshaft and engine block (?)

    CU Later! :)

    End of T.
