Should be another interesting thread to follow. Like the color.
    What year is the car?

Why are you removing the wheel arches?
I realize these cars normally were painted with them on.

  5. These are my all time favorite threads. The car looks to be in wonderful condition in the first place, so it should be outstanding when done. Keep the pictures rolling!!

We are removing them, as we are doing a bare metal re paint. The car is finished in Bianco Perlato. I am told that this was the first example finished in this color by the factory for the 1983 Paris Salon. The car was originally finished in red, and then "pulled aside" and re painted in Bianco Perlato. We are aiming for a superior job to the one that the factory did 30 years ago:)
The original invoice from Lamborghini has the color listed as Bianco Perlato.

Pearl white is one of the colours you cannot go wrong with.

Yes, This car was quite nice by Countach standards, but we are aiming to be among the best:) Here are a couple of photos of the car before disassembly:

The Paris show held in October was an annual event upto 1976. Thereafter it alternated with Frankfurt so I think your car was probably at the 1982 show. Clearly it is red underneath but in view of the time gap I have to wonder if it was painted bianco perlato for the show or after it before sale.

Mike, here are a few images from when I owned the car almost 20 years ago.

This was a great Countach, and I drove it extensively, fast & hard, on the road, and in a couple of rallies.

I should point out that on the factory invoice, the color is noted as "Bianco" only, but, this is likely Lamborghini's "sloppy" record-keeping of the time. "Peso" next to the notation of Bianco is a reference to the car's weight. In all fairness, I should also point out my post from last year http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/141723814-post14462.html where I clarify "FWIW this car started life with red paint at the works and was repainted Bianco Perlato prior to its February 1983 completion, allegedly for the Paris Salon. This was stated by two (2) factory employees on seperate occasions but I have zero documentation of this".

Try as I might (and I really tried), I was never able to uncover any photos or documentary evidence of its provenance. The previous owner Erik Neilsen is the one who told me about its suggested history. Nonetheless, to me, it was still a very cool LP500S which I enjoyed very much.

Cool, did not take long to strip it down. On my car Al painted the arch returns before riveting them back on for final primer and paint.

    Awesome!
I just wish I hadn't waited until 2008 to start my search for a Countach.
They have done nothing but go up in price since I started looking.

Love the thread look fwd to more photos!

We undoubtedly will; and I think these cars are well worth saving. I know that there is much discussion elsewhere on this forum about how they are getting expensive(ish)now. Countachflation will only get worse when the fat cats come in and start doing BIG$$ checkbook restorations on them. Just look at what happened to the once lowly Dino.

Nice work Michael. Are you having the work done in Utah?

Also, I've been going crazy looking for someone that has the original door struts on their car.

I'm almost certain that you're going to be buying new ones.

When the shop takes yours off please make sure they don't get thrown away.

I'm trying to make exact ones custom made but need a few to play with during that process.
