Going to Vegas later this week and I'd like to play some Texas hold 'em, 1-2 no limit mostly. Where do you locals play? What casinos are best for the tourists to play in? Are the rakes the same everywhere? I'm staying at the Venetian. Thanks

Not sure how long it's been since you been in Vegas, but poker rooms have slowly been either downsized or completely removed from hotels the past 5 years or so.

That being said, off-Strip hotel The Orleans is still a very active room (locals), same with off-Strip Red Rock as a popular room with locals. For tourists, I'd say Aria and Bellagio are the most active Strip poker rooms for tourists (and pros alike), Caesars too.

I'm interested to hear feedback from others. Granted I infrequently play poker, but my impression is places like Orleans have a lot of regular players that try to make a living playing poker while places like Aria and Bellagio have an odd mix of vacationers with a few grand to blow and serious players who will be happy to take it from you.

On a side note, I was talking to a professional poker player a few years ago for about an hour about the state of the game given the downturn in popularity. He said that making a living in Vegas playing poker has become very difficult, after the downturn tons of players left the game, but what's left are pretty damn good players that can make a living no matter what. He told me what he's been doing the past few years is the cruise circuit. I asked if the cruises hold poker tournaments often, he said he doesn't go for the tournaments, he finds that cruise ships are loaded with casual, horrible poker players and it's much easier to make a living playing that circuit with the bonus of being on cruises half the year.

Thanks for the input, I didn't know that. Poker is still very viable and popular here in North Texas; in fact a company has opened up a poker room here in the North Texas area that they claim has been vetted and determined to be lawful.

I don't play tables at all and really don't gamble so I am of no help. I love the casinos though and spend a lot of time on the strip! I love the food!

Ron. the Monte Carlo just announced it is closing its poker rooms entirely as a part of their "going upscale" investment that MGM is making. There's been something like a 35% decline in total poker seats over the past few years, since the gov't clamped down on internet sites. You can find some lower end stakes downtown as well. Bellagio is still pretty robust with a good offering of games and limits/buy-ins.

I didn't play any cash games in Vegas the couple times I've been there, but have played in a number of low buy-in tournaments that were a lot of fun.
    Las Vegas Poker Tournament Schedule

When I was last there in 2012 or so there were about 12 tournaments per day, now you have many more to chose from.

Look into Bravo Poker app, it shows which games are being offered at each property and how long the wait is. The 1/2 games on the Strip are generally pretty good while the local games (like at GVR and such) have much tighter players. I remember the poker room at the Venetian is pretty big and the room at the Wynn is very nice. Good luck and have fun

The Venitian is a good place to play and a lot less regulars than most strip poker rooms.

I would avoid any table where there's more than three regulars because there likely better than you and the majority of regulars are unpleasant to play with it. It's a much different game when your trying to make a living at it rather than a tourist who is happy to blow a few hundred having a good time.

The softest games right now are at Caesars and the Venitian.

Like Jim said above the Bravo App is a great tool to finding out where the games are at.

I've played 1-2 NL and 2-5 NL at Aria, Bellagio, and Venetian. Of those, Aria was the best. I ventured to Aria based on several articles I found via Google that said it was the best in Vegas.

Aria or Bellagio. Two best poker rooms in Vegas by far.
