    031 S with Motto body ex-002 C was owned at the time by Edmond Williman of Briarcliff Manor/NJ. He used it as a vintage racer. In 1984 Howard Gilmore had the chassis 031 S only. In 1992 Dick Merritt had the motor only of 031 S for sale. Don't know if Williman kept the Motto body or what happened to it.

    I was told that the Motto body was sitting in a garage on the east coast, but have no idea who has it or if it really still exists.

    I have a good article in Italian on Motto, and will make copies for anyone who sends me a SASE with two stamps on it..

    That is correct 002C has never been restamped. It began as a 159 and did not begin as a 125. The 125's were destroyed by Ferrari but the chassis were likely reused by Ferrari and restamped. As I've come to believe several of Ferrari's chassis that are listed as having been destroyed seem to have survived. Even one that I'm fond of that was thought to have been destroyed and scrapped but that's a different 100+ page kettle of fish. :)

    OK. Here's a question for all of you. See the Radiator grill in the MM photograph? Look's a bit nicer than the grill as it was when Sommer won the Turin GP in 002C. It was modified for that race. Should I make a nose like that?

    Jim,

    A couple of questions:
    - Wasnt the first Ferrari the 125 and not 166?
    - The rear of your 166 seems to descend smoothly for the most part and then juts out towards the bottom (please see post #43 on Page 3 of this post). Why is it shaped like that? I think the later 166s had uniformly smooth rear end.

    The 125 was first but none exist. They were likely rebuilt and restamped by Ferrari as 166s after 002C was built. (The 125 owned by Ferrari is a replica)
    The 166 Spyder Corsa's 002C and 004C were shaped like that.
    It does get a bit confusing.

    I like the lokk of the MM nose better...by the way, does anyone know what the round badge near the cockpit is?

    That cover shot is 004C (Note Grill & Mud Flaps) While 002C was not the first Ferrari (The 125's were) I guess as it's the earliest Ferrari that still exists in it's original form (159s/166s) Phil Hill's calling it: "The world's oldest Ferrari" in the 50th Anniversary issue of Road & Track makes sense.

    Yes, flows with the curvy lines of the car more vs the linear flat grill.

    002 is quite a incredible car, a real time capsule from Enzos younger days with his fingerprints all over it.
