Hello, I am new to the 206/246 section and have recently redirected my attention to the wonderful story of Chassis 03024. My intent with this car is to get it back on the road whilst trying to keep things as close to period correct thru the process. I have been lurking in the section since bringing the car to my shop and have reached out to a few wonderful people who have been more than generous with sharing their knowledge with me.

03024 was a dream of Mr. Octavio Tivoli, a professor of Architecture and the son of an Argentinian father and Italian mother. Octavio, now 92, flew to Maranello circa 1970 to visit the factory and pick out the options for his Dino. 03024 was completed in December of 1971 and in the spring of 1972 Octavio returned to Italy to pick up his Dino. To the car enthusiasts you can imagine my excitement at sitting an listening to Octavio tell the stories of this adventure. I laughed at his disgust in telling me how disappointed he was that he let the person at the factory convince him NOT to get leather seats and instead opt for vinyl because the weather in Winnipeg might be to harsh on the leather. I cant imagine someone in Maranello Italy having any idea were Winnipeg was let alone what the weather would be like :) After picking up the car and getting a thorough lesson from the factory mechanic on a spirited drive through Maranello, Octavio drove the Dino for the next few months thru Europe. Late in the summer of 1972 Octavio made it to France where he boarded the QE II for his transatlantic voyage which landed in New York for the next leg of his summer journey, he described touring thru upstate New York and along the great lakes to Chicago the up thru Wisconsin and Minnesota then home to Winnipeg, Maniotba where the car has spent the entirety of its life. Octavio described another great story of getting pulled over just outside Chicago for speeding only to be let off because the officer was Italian and they had a 20 minute conversation in Italian about the car :)

The car has been lovingly driven but has been neglected for the past few years due to Octavio's advancing age. The last time the car was driven in 2o22 it suffered a small flash fire, which after inspection, I suspect was due to a fuel leak. Octavio stated he put the fire out quickly but since then the car has sat, when we met he was very sincere and lovingly told me his "Dino was dying" :(

My intent is to get the car running, I own a 1977 308 GTB and a Testarossa and do my own mechanical work, I have a wonderful network of friends some of which are professional techs who work on vintage Ferraris but I'm hoping the folks in this form will provide their guidance and assistance as we go. I hope you enjoy the thread.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

Yes I will replace the clamps with similar Norma clamps and tuck the serflex clamps away with all the other bits and pieces. Was able to get hammertone paint here I guess the picture doesn’t show the texture.

Your engine courtesy light switch has the body tab on the passenger side?
I never saw this side before
    What character!

Interesting that you spotted that! I have spent countless hours looking at pictures and trying to learn about the subtle nuisances of these cars, I too was confused about that tab as all the pictures I have come across show it on the drivers side!

JEFF: CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME……thanks for posting the story and the repair process. I promise you will love the Dino I have owned mine for maybe 12 years.. Interestingly I was looking for info on my drivers side fuel tank and your thread caught my attention..
And of course you have several pictures of exactly wgat I was looking for..
And with that I will mention My Dino had a broken plastic strainer in the drivers side fuel tank which appears to have clogged the fuel line ..We have fixed it but just so you know..
