Hi all, I need your input. I am looking to purchase a 1979 Ferrari 308gts with vin # 29533. It has extensive documentation. It is located in Virginia Beach. The name is Maguire and Sons. If anyone can go check it out or has a mechanic to do so I will gladly pay you for it. There are extensive pictures of the vehicle if you care to look at them. I have never seen a speedo gauge that looked like this one. It has 64,000 miles on it and the engine was rebuilt at 59,000 miles. a lot of money was spent on this vehicle. Please let me know what you think. I am ready to buy. TIA, Sam

Looks nice with the MOMO inspired red & yellow, VERY in period and was a livery for many a race car.

That vin seems too high for a 1979 car - mine is 29041 and I have Maranello Concess. paperwork with build date September 79.

I guess that's a common thing with these cars. Not sure if they are done that way on purpose (maybe?) or by mistake.

Mine was like that when I got it. I put them in the orginal locations easily enough.

Well I knew Ferrari paperwork was whacky, but that just proves it!

It has a GTSi speedometer that only goes to 80 MPH (From an 81 or 82). Steering wheel has been redone and a few other odds and ends. That yellow piping is odd. Other things, spare tire hold down knob is missing and there are no underside shots, so no idea on what has been refurbished on the suspension side. Paint appears to be nice and shiny though. Loose the shields. Not sure why the engine was rebuilt....it really shouldn't need that....they usually run for at least double that without issues. In fact the higher the mileage the less chance you need to rebuild them. Not close enough to go look at it, but you do need to have someone who knows 308's go out and check it over and take it for a drive. Good luck with that.

Check the tires as well, they should be V rated. I don't think those Goodrich tires are. You can get XWXs at Tire Rack. V is not mandatory if you keep it under 100, but you should be aware.

My bad on the speedometers Dr Tommy, I thought they came in, in late 80. Well I guess I am never to old to learn something new.

80-82 cars got them. The QV's in 83 forward didn't.
