    One of my absolute favorite Dino body styles was the 206 SP!. I even went as far togo to a small town in Italy a few years ago as I considered getting a body made. The real deals are way out of my price range so not an option. A few days ago I got a call from Tom Shaunessey saying he had just what I needed on his trailer back east somewhere. He sent me one picture of it on the trailer and 10 minutes later we had a deal. It was delivered to my shop yesterday. This particular reproduction was made by Norwood in the eighties for Joe Marchetti and later sold to Thomas (Doc) Murphy in Chicago who occasionally raced it. It is pretty complete with gearbox etc but no motor. I was thinking a Fiat Dino motor might work well. Any suggestions will be very helpful. I'm hoping someday to drive it on the street. The first order of business is too remove the roll bar as it spoils the lines of the,

    Super fun project! I would get the spare Fiat Dino motor and hot rod it to the max. Fuel injection, etc. What a blast!

    The 206SP is my all-time favorite car. To my eyes, it looks better proportioned than the P3/P4s.. If I could have only one car, that would be it.

    To respond to Racerboy, one of my pix shows 002 with injection, and the other shows it after Bill did a carb conversion to make it more driveable. With injection, it took 3 people to start it: One to hold the hood up, one to squirt starter fluid, and one to turn the starter on. Then it had to idle for a half hour to warm up, or opening the throttle would make it die. If one hopes to drive it at all, carbs are better.

    Nice picture Ed...That is a great car. I bet it sounded wonderful with the injection after you got it going.


    For the replica, see if you can find a rusted out FIAT Dino coupe and steal the motor like already suggested. I think they cast replica Dino racing wheels in Italy. I remember seeing both cars up at Road America at the Chicago Historical races when JM was alive.

    Same guy...I remember as a kid going over to the Como Inn and getting a visit to the "ACME" warehouses down the street that were filled with old Italian cars. On that day he had a 330LMB, 250LM and 64 GTO in the shop sitting along with a bunch of less rare Ferrari production cars. That area is now mainly condo towers now, with more under construction.

    I would think a modern fuel injection system would be less problematic than the old Lucas or Kuglefischer systems but carburetors I understand much better!

    The 206SP is almost impossibly elegant, especially for a race car. I've always felt those creases over the fenders are some of the most beautiful lines ever drawn on an automobile body.

    Great pics Ed. Bill was like a dad to me growing up. He dated my mom for about 10 years and taught me how to drive. I came across some great pics on facebook the other day - I had only seen the ones previously posted but these are period correct racing photos.

    I used to be the pit crew for 196 as a kid... It was the best youth ever. The day he sold it was sad.

    Great replica and I hope you have fun with it - it is so beautiful!!!! If you can find a dino motor it would be great to build up. There are usually an abundance of 308 motors out there, too.

    So I decided on this engine for my project. It's a Fiat Dino 2.0 L aluminum. It's from a spider which gives it a smaller and lighter sump.
