I have a twin distributor gt4 which has been moded to run a Hall effect ignition system on both units. The Marelli data plate is unclear but appears to say model 158' or 159 . With the engine timed ok , the distributors are incorrectly orientated and I wonder if the location dowel for the cap alligment changes with different distributor bodies ? The model numbers are S159A for a dist with an adjustable dog drive on the cam axle, and S159B for a spline drive. When you say incorrectly adjusted do you mean that the distributor flange is not flush with the engine? The location dowel for the cap has only one position.
Thanks My caps leads exit in a " points into the v , engine centre, position and thus is not like the parts book illustration leaving the left hand bank HT wires rather tight onto the plugs, No amount of chopping and changing of the distributor bodies or caps or leads can give me no 1 firing lead to no 1 cylinder at TDC etc .as per the illustration . However the engine will run with all arranged correctly but the HT leads exit is orientated "into the V " ? Richard Image Unavailable, Please Login
From memory, the rear bank cap has the wires exit to the one o'clock position and the front bank cap to the 10 o'clock position as seen from the side looking at the distributors. With the S159A the dist cam axle can only be installed in two positions, "correct" and 180 degrees turned (then you would also need to turn the body/cap 180 degree to make sure the cap/terminals/rotor are aligned to the camshaft position). If your dists are installed 180 degrees turned compared to the factory setting then the (incorrect) installation position of the hall sensors could be the reason for this i guess.
