    I decided that it was finally time to replace the outer door seal weatherstripping on my driver's side door. The rubber had split at the top-right corner of the door, and I already had the new replacement stuff b/c one of the previous owners bought it but never installed it.

    "I'll just do it," I thought!

    Famous last word - "Just"....riiiiiiiight.

    In my infinite wisdom, I just grabbed ahold of the old strip, and started pulling. <thhhhwap!> Out it came.

    "Now....to put the new piece in.....hmm....let's see here....looks like I need a....nope, that doesn't work....maybe I'll try a....nah, all that's going to do is scratch the trim....what if I stretch it?......Hmph...that doesn't work, either.....WHAT THE *%*@$#@#$(*&%()@_)%(*&(@#$&(*$%!?!?!?"

    So - how bad is it, Doc(s)?

    Okay, I just went and looked at mine, and here's what I found

    I assume you're talking about the weather-strip that's "on" the door.

    At the top corner of the thwappie... :p uh.. :rolleyes: I mean the door, there are two screws. (you can see my weather-stripping is gone too) One on the top and another on the side. There are two more near the curve in the door, and two more at the bottom leading edge. I believe you will need to loosen those screws and separate the frame, in order to re-insert the new weather-strip.

    I did not see another screw at the bottom of the window, near the rear side of the door. There may be one buried inside the door. That will be a pain to get to, I'm sure. ;)

    Also, (I took a picture just in case) I assume you're not talking about the normal weather-stripping that fits in the door-frame. Right? That just pops on and off as in the last two pictures below.

    PS: Remember my picture of the stuck engine? A plan. A plan. Have a plan before you begin. And if you change your plan in the middle of the work, be sure to review all of the steps before you initiate the change in plan. Othewise you can easily get stuck.

    Yes...it's definitely the weatherstripping "on" the door that I'm speaking of. I was afraid somebody was going to tell me it had to do with those screws. My Allen head screw at the top corner of the door didn't want to come out when I tried last week. I pulled a little harder on the Allen wrench, and I began to feel the head deforming. After my ordeal with the steering wheel screws and a similar situation (that ultimately resolved with a couple left-hand drill bits and a screw "backout", I backed off.

    Argh...

    Replacement allen-head screws are available at most hardware stores. Even in metric sizes. So don't sweat it.

    Also, try using some Liquid Wrench and let it sit over night before you try it again.
