After a thorough search regarding the topic of wheels and rear lights on the 348, I didn't find ALL of the info I was seeking. I share, with hundreds of other people, the same thoughts about updating my wheels and somehow dressing up the rear cheese grate. Does anyone have pictures or can share information regarding aftermarket 17" wheels that will fit a 348 Spider or 348 in general. Also, has anyone painted their cheese grate to match car color? Please post pics. Thanks for any feedback.

...for all you purists, lay off! I will be purchasing a 550 Maranello soon and want to keep the 348 Spider as a summer car, but would like to update it a little.

If you have a 348 Spider, the color of your "cheese grates" should already be matching the color of your car's paint.

Only the side rocker panels (and the lower front and rear skirts) on the earlier 348s tb and ts were black.

Im sure he's talking about the the cheese grated lights! on the back of the car, not the side, which are black.

    Good point.

Well, I've never even heard of anyone painting the black slats that cover the rear taillights. Might look interesting.

Chiaro_slag's blu chiaro Testarossa has painted taillight slats - I guess it would depend on the car color as I could see it making the look worse on red or yellow - too '80's monochrome.

Haven't seen wheel updates in 17" - most folks step up to 18's from what I've seen. But certainly the HRE's, Kinesis, Fikse, etc, could be made in 17" although maybe not all of their styles. I highly recommend 18" wheels for looks plus 348's apparently respond to more rear tire so you can go to 295 width on a 10" or 10.5" rear wheel.

    Cheers

I think a very positive update is to go to the 355 style side panels and front bumper. This will make the car look a lot more 90's and will bolt right on.

one of the few advantages of 348 vs 355 is front bumper looks more classic on 348. do side panels (or get a black car so graters not so visible) and maybe get round tail light kit. definitely go with 18" rims though

Changing the wheels is all you need to do to update a 348 spider, add 355 or 512 tr wheels or some of the better looking aftermarket wheels (HRE`s, BBS etc) in 18".

I have attached a picture of a 348 with the rear grille painted in body colour, but the colour may be a bit strong for you.

    Regards,
    Phil.

Sheeeez. If that's an upgrade, I'd hate to see a downgrade.

Why have a 348 if you do not like the cheese grates? That is what sets the car apart and makes it stand out! I agree on the rear tail lights though.

The rear cheese grates were all part of the design - it probably took someone at Pinninfarina hours to get it right, and then get approval!

The rear slats make the car appear wider, its like wearing a pin stripe suit - it'll make short guys look taller. So why the hell anybody would even contemplate changing the gorgeous look of the 348 beats me.

I get fed up with this bollox about changing the core elements of 348's. If people want the looks of a 355, then they should buy one! The only elements I would consider changing would be the exhaust (done - tubi decat) and wheels, although I'm still not convinced - possibly Speedlines (in keeping with the era).

    That's my 2 cents:)

Is this an oxymoron? I guess he's only looking for good feedback. :)

348 Center console carbon fiber modifications. All the original pieces are safe and sound,

The ash tray is currently not needed, so I deleted that part, and added a custom phone holder with a hidden charger. The power is already there.
The part around the shifter was replaced with an additional engine start button.
There is also a fountain pen holder in matching carbon fiber because I’m not a cave man, and I like a nice pen.
