You can get component speakers for the best sound, but I like the MB Quartz 6.5" Coax speakers. Good sound, should fit in the factory speaker locations with no mods. I have also enjoyed Infiniti speakers in a previous vehicle. Check the depth of space available with the window down to see what speaker depth can be accommodated. If it is really close you can shim the fron of the speaker out and get a little more clearance behind the speaker. Post some pics of the install to help out others planning on doing similar work a little later this year!

mine has the factory carpet and am really not wanting to cut it and expose the grill of the speakers. But I will need to take the plunge since I have tubi's exhausts!

You won't need to cut the carpet. You also won't use the speaker grilles that come with the aftermarket speakers. The MB Quart speakers should fit into the existing hole in the door frame. I was just saying to check the depth behind the speaker to make sure the speaker magnet will clear the window mechanism when it is down. I agree that the factory door panel look is important to keep.

BT348PBG, I have also been considering the MB Quarts, the 6.5” Reference or Premium line for my 348 spider. The mounting depth appears to be 2.5” for the MB line. Do you currently have MB speakers in your beautiful 348ts? If yes, saves me the time removing my door panels prior to ordering a set! Thank you.

No I don't currently. But they fit okay in my 1999 Tacoma. Wish I could say they fit (depth wise) for sure, but the Crutchfield site may be of some help. I'll check to see if the 348 is listed to check.
Edit: I just checked the Crutchfield site and they don't list the 1989 Ferrari as one of the car choices to check fitment. I sent them an email to see if they can tell me what will fit. I will post when / if I get any info from them.

    Using the SEARCH function:
I found that somebody posted in another thread that the speaker depth was about 63 mm (2-5/8"). If you guys can stand the wait I will probably try to do the speaker change out in about a month.

I have Boston Acoustic plates in the back...4'' woofers with seperate tweeters...I have Polk Audio tweeters up top and ADS 4'' inch in the door....2 of them on each side...I have a kicker solobaric 15" in the trunk with a box that I custom built for the sub..I use 2 amps...an ADS 6 channel amp for the highs (3 channels are blown right now) which I am going to replace with a Phoenix Gold 4-channel amp...my sub is run by a 2000 watt California amp... I love the way it sounds for times that the engine music just won't do.

That sounds great, but too involved for my taste. I am juist looking to replace the head unit, install a small quality amp, and replace the factory door speakers. I had a decent Alpine head, amp (22w), speaker setup in my old Alfa, and it worked fine for me.

BT I agree, a little to involved and might interfere with the already delicate alternator!
So any final suggestions. MB Q the way to go for the door panel speakers. Near the a/c vents some tweeters should be do the job. The intention is to maximise the bang for the limited space allocation.
