I am feeling a very slight power loss at criusing speed or at the time of just releasing the clutch. Car seems to just feel marginally sluggish, on hard acceleration it is fine--no issues. On going through the previous threads I understand it could be an o2 sensor which needs replacement. Where are these located?? Do these need replacement or can be cleaned and fitted back?

Oxygensensorwholesale.com has them (universal and factory fit). The universal ones are also available at most Autozone, Pep Boys, etc... You can get the universal ones for about $65, or the factory fit for about $170. The universal ones need to be spliced in using your existing plug in connector. My understanding is that they can not be cleaned to get more life out of them. I have an 89 348ts and am looking at getting some also. The good news is that it should not leave you stranded, you just have to keep accelerating to keep the O2 sensor from doing anything to the motor.

Can't comment on your symptom & diagnosis, but this is a great link that someone posted earlier for O2 sensors (especially if you need to figure out if a universal will work). I really like the connector picture and cable length data they have for each O2 sensor and the related tech info:

I would think that if the O2's were the problem your CELs would be on showing them to be non compliant with what the ECUs maps need for info. The main reason for the senser is to keep the a/f ratio at 14.7:1 (best for emission and mileage). They are a fine tuning device for the ECUs.
I would wonder if the throttle plates could be out of sync. Regards, Vern

Oh, forgot about your question they are located on your test pipes or should be, that is the location where they would be if you had cats on the car.

Where are the oxygen sensors located? Probably under the dash, near the muffler bearing reservoir.

    :)

Just kidding.... they're jammed into your test pipes and look the size of chapstick.

That happens eventually but I've seen O2 sensors fail gradually. The ECU only knows/cares that the voltage range it's seeing from the sensor is correct. That's not the same thing as the mixture actually being correct.

Mfennell70, I agree about the sensors going bad gradually I have seen a few do this too. When I think about the theory behind the O2 sensor on the 2.7 cars they don't operate any farther than effecting the mixture other than a fine tune of the existing map at idle or steady state throttle. I have even disconnected them on 2.7 cars just to see how they run and found no noticeable difference ie; no lack of power, IIRC the fuel mixture is slightly richer. Anyway if this was a 360 where the O2 is used throughout the operating range then maybe a bad one could effect the run quality more. That is why I thought there was more to his running problem than just O2 sensor, maybe the throttle postion sensors needing adjustment, although the CELs would come on also if they weren't right or maybe the throttle plates need syncronizing, but hey I could be wrong wouldn't be the first time. Regards, Vern
