355 questions

I would like to buy a 355GTB or GTS - want only a red/tan car, non F-1 gearbox, with a very nice, if not perfect, interior and the engine-out belt service complete. Also, if the car is a '95, the valve guide replacement must have been done and done by a competent Ferrari mechanic. A car that has had cats and headers replaced would be a bonus. Are there any other issues I am missing and what do people think today's market is for such a car? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, I am just starting the separate process of selling my '85 red/tan 308 gts (it's in very nice shape).

I would say in the mid to low 70's for a 95 and more for later models. I am researching the car as well, and I think if you find a nice example you may want to soften your hard stance of the valve guides. Yes these cars are at risk of such a problem, but to assume every car will have the issue is a bit much.

98 and later are less likely to have the valve guide problem, due to some improvements.

I personally wouldn't walk away from a car w/o valve guide replacement if it was everything I wanted an in great shape.

 

Suggest you check the thread on F355 Valve Guides. It was only an issue on certain cars.

 

What Matt says is true--valve guide issues not limited to '95's. Also be aware of the exhaust header cracking problem--there are many threads on this as well.
