I've been reading back threads looking for HP and Torque numbers for a '98-'99 355 and gather the HP is about 380 at the crank - less at the wheels - but what is the Torque?

Also, where is the power band on a 355? Although my little S2000 (Ok, stop laughing) has 245 HP, it only has about 165 ft/lbs of Torque and the power band doesn't really kick in with the second cam until almost 7000 rpms. Fun to drive after you get it there but a little dull until then.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to compare your, or anyone else's, Ferrari in any way to my lowly Honda - I'm just trying to get a sense of what to expect, performance-wise, if I pull the trigger and buy one of these puppies.

To me, the car has a surprisingly little amount of low end torque. Even spooling up to 7k RPM in first gear doesn't pin you to your seat. But for some reason, when accelerating in third gear (from about 50-80+) it's REALLY impressive!

Saw a video somewhere of a 355 and an M3 driving side by side. Each driver stomped on the gas, keeping it in either 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear. The Ferrari pulled away from the Beemer each time.

The book rating is about 275 ft-lbs at 6000 rpm (give or take a bit).

Enough to throttle-on oversteer the car in 4th gear on a dry track. Dont ask how I know.
