355 Values???

So I decided to sell my 99 F355, advertised it here on Ferrari ads for $57,900 and recieved no response. Considering I just paid $7,000 for the service I'm netting back $50,000 for the car. Seems like this is a give away price compared to the others I find listed, obviously not. So I'm curious, how low would I have to go to sell it before the snow hits, what is the true market value today in the opinion of F Chatters?

 

The price seems fair. Just wait it out, quality cars do sell.

 

Agreed...seems like a fair price (not knowing mileage or condition). Be patient, these cars take a while to find the right buyer - especially in this economy when relatively few have the cash and it's tough to get a loan for a toy. If you're in a hurry, I would lower the price in big chunks ($2k) every couple weeks until you start getting nibbles.

It took me what seemed like an eternity to sell a perfect 2006 M5 this year. Lots of dreamers and idiots out there. Finally after gradually lowering the asking from $48k to $41K, I got a buyer and let it go for $40k. This took 3-4 months.

 

I suggest you market more widely perhaps eBay, cars.com, autotrader.com

 

I have a close friend who just purchase a 1998 ferrari 355 with 20,000 miles for 35g. Car has no issues, and was fully serviced and checked at ferrari dealer before purchase.

 

The 355 has really taken a tumble during the last 6 months. 35G maybe a very very rare deal, but 40's are out there.

 

So it could have been bought in the 20's with no service? If that's the case the guy could have made more money parting it out.

 

Is this a coupe ? Spyder ? GTS ? If a GTS you will probably get close to asking. If a coupe or spyder you are $8-10k too high

Im following the market pretty closely as Im thinking of getting another F355 (sold my last one a couple of years ago).

Problem is you can buy a 360 for $75k all day long so you have to be significantly under that.

 

This is the softest time of year for 355's and spiders in particular. Last year, I saw prices swing up about $5k in March.

 

it takes time to find the right buyer; as prices drop there's many more fickle buyers who just want a '355' and only look at the lower prices. I know when I was buying I wanted a 98-99, with F1, GTB only, yellow or red...took quite a while to find just that car in top condition and serviced, etc.

And still more new potential Ferrari owners just want the newest they can afford and don't yet realize that the 355 is much more bellisima than the 360

 

I have been watching the market for a nice 355 GTS also. After looking at the usual sites, it appears 360 coupes are selling in the $60s, Spyders in the $70s. With 328s in the 30s, 348s in the high 30s-low 40s, it seems the 355s should be in the 50s.

 

There are a lot more 360's than 355's and this may affect pricing as well. The 328 is higher prices than the 348's for a real nice one.

 

My car should be gone next week--Have a serious buyer flying out from the west..

Absolutely priceless! Having realized the value of the 348, very few sellers, unlike the other models. A collecting point for true enthusiasts, fewer available cars.

 

Bought an M5 last week, not to replace the Ferrari, just wanted something I could get in and drive and not worry about where I park or if I wanted to pick up some groceries...and I can park it outside and not worry about it, unlike the Ferrari--It had to be in the garage every night...

 

If you look at a low mile 328, they ask 70k or so. I'm not putting down the 348. I guess I could of said that the 328's are sold for more than some 360's if that makes things feel better. My point was that the 355 may be higher priced than a 360 in 5 years based on supply and demand for a nice car.

Whoa really! Circumstances of the sale? Dealer? Divorce? Salvage?

 

I guess its a little weard, owner just wanted to sell. My friend is amazed at the deal, F1 to top it off. I think if someone really looks for some deals on f-cars they are out there. But I guess you have to really be looking aggresively. I like the 360, you can probably get one for like 60g if you tried. That is an amazing car for 60g. I cannot even believe you can buy them for that. So much car for 60g.

It's a nice looking car, and sounds well serviced/updated (assuming no accident history), but grigio ingrid over blue is going to limit your buyer pool somewhat and probably the price.

Also, the F1 gearbox is going to reduce the appeal, as the technology improved with the 360 and F430, and then went dual-clutch in the 458. The six-speed manual is less intimidating to prospective buyers.

While it is a Spider, U.S. Ferrari owners seem to store their cars all winter (and most of the other three seasons) anyway, so I don't think that would have a big impact on value. Probably the bigger factor is 18,000 360 Modena/CS/Spiders on the market. I don't recall any time in history when there were more used modern-ish Ferraris available.

As others said, it can take a while to sell any Ferrari. Be patient is probably the right advice...

 

I've been watching prices and it seems a few months ago the market had bottomed out for 355s; there were quite a few on eBay/cars.com/etc. for mid- to high-30s, but now they seem to be closer to 50 and slightly above...

Any other thoughts?
