Curious if anyone else has problems with filling their 360 with fuel at the pump. When filling mine the fuel nozzle keeps snapping/stops pumping. Is there a certain way you should hold the nozzle when filling. The only way it seems to work is when I fill it “extremely” slow.

Not normal. I just push the nozzle in all the way and set it on auto.

It's normal, the 360 is filled with the nozzle at low pressure... If you set it in high speed it stops prematurely... I think it has to do with the fact that the 360 has 2 separate tanks connected with a pipe and it takes a while longer to get the air out of the system when refueling, so it will stop if you try to rush it with high pressure at the pump...

I forgot where on here I read this, but turn the handle upside down and it won't stop as much. Seems to work for me. People look at you funny though.... ;)

I've never had any problems filling up and your problem could be caused by the fuel vapour canister:

Ferrari 360 Fuel Anti-Evaporation System | Aldous Voice

How many miles does your car have? It is supposed to be replaced at the 32,150 mile service (it is called "activated charcoal filter" in the user manual's maintenance plan) but not all dealers actually change it if there are no symptoms of it having failed (like yours) and it can, of course, fail before.

    +1,
never had a problem letting the fuel rip w my 02 (gas seems to have a remarkable ability to enter ... and exit my car quickly!). I have noticed seems to be able to take an additional ~2+ gal after shut off ( I have also wondered if is due to two tanks and equilibration )

no problems filling it here, I have read the trick about putting the nozzle down so the handle is above but that seemed to make no difference. I just fill it slow down to get the last bit in.

    ^^^^^^This

I've noticed that different pumps have different sensitivities. At some stations full speed works and at others it will stop instantly.
I also noticed that as the tank(s) get closer to full, the only way to really fill them to the top (gauge showing full) is to wait a little for the tank levels to stabilize for 10 or 15 seconds, then continue as the level approaches full.

I turn mine 90 degrees like a gangster shooting punks with his nina and it seems to work OK! :)

Glad to learn this is common, I had been scratching my head as to why the fuel pump always clicks off prematurely. Looks like I need to get that filter replaced.

Whatever methods you use to fill up the tank, don't top it off. Excess fuel will seep into the evaporative system and will cause intermittent CELs until the excess fuel burns off. Do a search in this forum for additional information on this subject.

BTW, does anyone know the part number of that fuel evap filter in Aldous blog posting? I'm going to look into having mine replaced at next annual service. Thanks!

The filter in Aldous's post is part number 180132:
    http://www.eurospares.co.uk/searchResult.asp?find=+&S=180132

However pls note that these can be different by region and by year - in the US, for example, I think it is part 186316 if your model year is 2001 or later:

Particularly when the tank is near empty, I just start off slow and then set it on auto. Once the filler nozzle stops, I'm done. I never try to get the last drop in.

Never had that problem with mine!! I would try a different gas station or at least a different pump or maybe slow down and enjoy the questions you get filling a beautiful car up knowing that you just burned a whole nother tank of fuel in it

I agree with Steve 100%. NEVER top off as excess fuel is wasted and goes to the evaporator.

BTW, no issue with filling up mine. Although I never select the full speed refuel setting. I always use the middle setting on the fuel hose. No rush and less chance of overfill.

Depending on the pump, Really. 60/40 no issue to issue.

I've wondered about this too since I got mine late last year. Always had problems filling up until reading this thread. Based on input here, low-speed filling with the pump handle held sideways gangsta-style allowed me to finally fill the tank for the first time. Thanks.

I have to agree with the above... Time to change the canister.
You may want to try to angle the fuel handle sideways... it helps a little.

Ugh, I just learned that you are correct. I tried the advice here with angling the pump nozzle and inverting it, just to see if that was the issue or if I need to invest in replacing the carbon filter. I filled two or three extra squeezes of the pump after the first click off to try to get the tank to full. D'oh! I still didn't get a topped off tank and immediately got a Check Engine light on the dash.

Is it safe to assume that this is a non-catastrophic issue and will correct itself in a few days? Or will this not remedy itself?

For me it was non-catastrophic and corrected itself. It took about 2 tanks of gas to do so. To err on the safe side, I scan for codes, record and reset it every time the CEL comes on so that I don't miss codes that are not associated with the evaporative system. It's a hassle and definitely a lesson learned. :)

Mine is also hard to fill up. Some stations worse than others. Trying different angles and flow-rates on the handle. Having said that, my Gallardo was even worse.

    :D
