    According to Wiki these race versions had an unrestricted power output of 550hp.
    Who needs a turbo?
    Anyone know what the mods were to achieve this astonishing figure from 3.6 litres?

    Same as you would do with any race engine: increase the compression, reduce the engine weight so that you can rev it faster. This all comes at the price of usability and durability.

    Do a search for 360trev- he responded to a guy and listed all the differences- bottom line is yes 360 is capable of 550hp- but it was a full race motor and very costly- I.e. Lots of rebuilding
