Saw a RHD Black in Black 512M convertible in an independent dealer last Sunday (I am located in HK). They told me this is the factory built one. Could anyone have more info on this. I knew there are quite a few in US converted by independent body shop but not sure if there were actually custom-built by the factory. Cheers
The car you are talking about is not factory built, there was only one factory built car and that was a blue TR, the black one is a conversion, here are some pics of the blue TR.
Auraraptor: this is not the F512 M Spider Conversion which was discussed on this board before, which had the tan "alligator" interior. Note that Onlinesys told that the car is RHD. The first name that then comes to my mind is "Sultan of Brunei" ..... who knows ....
Zach, do you know who did the conversion for Mike Tyson? Straman? Eurotech? I know that Tyson had a Testarossa Koenig too, but the conversion probably isn't done by Koenig ....
It is definitely a 512M convertible rather than a TR. Will post the photo soon and check out the Vin tomorrow. Cheers
onlinesys, The car you saw at Carcity is a factory built one .. a few done by a shop in LA. But this particular one is done in factory.....sources from a very close to Ferrari SPA factory told me. But damn expensive !
true!! I just talked to Gil Matthews of Australia last week. there is no Testarossa Spyder that has officially been released (sold) to the public. the one out there are all modifications from a USA carshop.
the guy who trades alot of cars in carcity is a very famous steel manufacturer in Hong Kong. He basically makes all the steel kitchen cooking pots for 2 major German brands (now talking about market monopoly) He also has 2 Mercedes Benz GTR Leman cars, which he bought at a little less than US$1 million each (much cheaper than most Hong Kong people thinks) the fact is that both Merceds Benz Leman cars are left-handed driven, so no import tax is necessary, as they would not get permit to drive on Hong Kong roads anyway. However, these 2 cars are too low to the ground that it is impossible to drive them on any street of HK....so they always sits in carcity dealer shop. anyway, it is possible that this black 512TR is a factory car, because he does have power to do this... in fact, I know the truth... he uses 3 Ferraris to trade for this Testarossa Spyder... *this spyder was originally to be delivered to the Ferrari museum, but he bought it by many negotiation (finally, Ferrari Italy agreed him to trade it for 3 Ferraris!!)
ok, I have talked to the people again. correction, (1)there are 3 original Ferrari Testarossa, including 512TR, in the world. all are built by Ferrari itself **not American carshop. (2)this convertible is originally in the Ferrari museum, where the other 2 cars are also located. (3)the guy finally reached a deal by trading 2 Ferraris for this Spyder. (black) **so, definitely, it would be great if you have the money to add this car to your collection! very rare model! I think it is as rare as seeing a 456 Spyder or a 456 Stationwagon
Was just there this afternoon, and that car is certainly a beauty. I actually saw it AND THEN noticed this thread. I quite like the way that it has no badges at the rear. Really clean look.
Went there at lunch time today to have a look at this legendary TR. The car is NOT for sale !!! It just parks there from time to time. The owner is not a household name. Less than 6000m on the clock. No badge on the back. But it definitely is not a 512M (lights are different !). It should be a TR. Well, a topless TR is sure exotic but I think a hard top would look nicer. The lines of a topless TR would just be ...(dunno)... not as natural as a hardtop. A red 512M was parked at Village Road when I went to Tak Bo.
I'm VERY interested in pictures of this car and (if possible) also the VIN (check the steering column for the small plate with the 17-digit VIN). This VIN can also be THE proof that the car was made by the factory. So, if anyone of you is possible to supply the VIN and some pictures, PLEASE let me know. Please also note that there have been several companies who made Spider conversions of the Testarossa. Besides the very famous Straman, you had companies like Coachbuilder, Eurotech, Pavesi and Lorenz & Rankl. For more details, check my site at www.red-headed.com. Also, I've been at the Ferrari Museum (Galleria Ferrari) two weeks ago, and there was no TR Spider. In fact, I would have known if there has been one over there. The original TR Spider (see pics in this thread) was crashed by the son of the owner, Agnelli. Don't know if it still exists today. I heard stories about a second car being owned by Piero Ferrari, but I don't have more details. But again, pictures and VIN would be appreciated A LOT!! I will also send a short private message to a few of you ... Best regards, Edvar van Daalen
Hi chatters, hi Edvar, Remember: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10677&highlight=Bernd VW Boss riding on a 512M, Audi Boss Winterkorn on a Enzo over 360 km/h these days ... this is very strange. the start of the post mentioned that the car (a 512TR or simply a Testarossa spyder) is listed for sale.. **althought I have checked www.carcity.com.hk and it is not publicly announced. and in just few days, there are news that this car is not available for sale. It's true that the owner does put many of his cars to the carcity garage all the time (including the 2 Mercedes Benz GTR Lemans) Well, there may be someone who bought a similar car from USA?? the one that I know may not be the same one as mentioned here??? I just know (1)the car is right-handed driven (2)the people who knows the informations has a long relationship with the spyder owner, **not the shop or the customers of the shop. (3)the spyder **if we are talking about the same black color one, does belong to one of the three in the Ferrari meseum, which he eventually traded with 2 "rare" Ferraris...
Slag - I agree Yoshi - it was for sal recently at auction - http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/florida/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=173507 and was at the Cavallino classic in 2003
