Well I am not sure of consistent issues with 550 but I am very well aware of consistent issues with Japanese service quality.

Why not just plan on spending $20k to $30k to deal with belts and “while you are in there’s”

To name a few…
Engine mounts

Trans mounts

Coils and plug wires

Fuel smell telling in tank needs addressing those parts that degrade.

Alarm light on and need replacing? If so then headlight gaskets at same time…

The list is long….

Plus since it would ever be hard to sell into California (one of the biggest markets) the question is how huge a discount does one need unless it’s a “hold forever and have your estate ultimately sell it)?

That last Euro sale (hammer price) on BaT surprised me….as one commented it had to be driven up by FHP and the rollbar.

I was just trying to say....its amazing how fast it all adds up. Even simple and easy stuff can get insanely expensive. Just now I was looking at a brand new window switch and the drivers side NOS pair for the 550 are $1300GPB. Insanity...... and my driver window switch is toast..... 8-(

 

I agree with you..should have separated two thoughts....worry about "stickies" or retracted dash leather, misses the point about what is important in evaluation of a possible purchase. Even with the best evaluation and intentions, cars of this age and with a heavy Ferrari "tax", unanticipated costs can be a real reality check.

 

I just paid close to 1k to replace my a/c off button. Shop had to buy a whole salvaged panel to get the button. This was on top of 8-9k to chase down a cel, and 7k to fix the hvac. The little stuff piles up quickly.
