I'm wondering what it would take to make the bluetooth in my 612 (and probably the 599, as well) useful. The problem seems to be that the mic picks up too much background noise. Has anyone tried installing a different mic, perhaps with different placement?

The aftermarket bluetooth system in my Audi has none of these issues, and in normal driving the 612 isn't much, if any, louder than the Audi in terms of ambient noise.

On the other hand, I'm a bit reluctant to let a typical car stereo installer start taking the 612 apart...

    Good question.

The 599 seems to have the same issue. No one seems to able to hear me when using the car's mic...

It looks like Ferrari has a gift for choosing horrible infotainment systems...which is my only real complaint about the car.

On my Audi S3 all of this stuff works perfectly on the other hand...

Useless in my '08. Could it be a microphone issue?

I'm pretty sure it is. I don't know if it's the quality of the microphone or the placement, or both.

I put in a new radio head unit in my 05 612 - Its a Kenwood system - installer ran the mic to where is pops out right next to the dome light. Works great.

take your car to a reputable car A/V installer - one who works on F-car's all the time. Ask your local Ferrari dealer who they recomend, or jump on the regional sections of the forums to get a recomendation.

Ferrari Bluetooth and Navi are just awful. I'm suprised to hear that its useless in an 08 as well.

    Good luck,

I'm thinking about doing that. I think a new microphone, or even just one with better placement, will do the trick.

Do you have any pics of your install?

I'm currently negotiating on an '06 and my first though is to take to an A/V installer and have a really great head unit installed (touchscreen) that would give me BT, NAV and XM etc.

The crap head unit on the older 612's is really the only thing I don't like about them. Is there an aftermarket option that looks more like the factory system in the 2009?

However, car is in the shop for some TLC. I hate hitting potholes, they cost a fortune!

Car should be finished by next Friday they say.....I'll snap some pics then.

The install is really good - The saving grace for the 05-06 612 is that the factory radio and CD holder make a perfect 2 DIN space - so your options are wide with which brand of head unit you would like to install. I added the Kenwood because my installer was most familiar with it - Rear back up camera, bluetooth, Sirius, Nav, etc etc etc.

I wish the new 08-09 612 Bose unit was available aftermarket - I'd put that in my car in a heartbeat.

Did you install a different microphone for the phone? How is the phone quality-- can people understand you when you're driving?

This looks really nice. Could you share how much the unit costs and what did it cost to install?

While my car was in for service, I had them bring in an audio guy and pull the microphone. Surprisingly, to me anyway, the audio guy was of the opinion that the microphone was very, very high quality, with noise cancelling and everything. His opinion was that it was NOT a microphone issue.

So, the dealer has ordered a new microphone assembly under warranty, and we'll see if that makes a difference. I'm guessing not, but you never know.

Also, they're doing the "secret" iphone update-- if you have a 612, this isn't one of the normal, listed updates-- it's only available if you specifically ask for it. So that will be interesting as well.

My dealer put in the replacement microphone yesterday, and the sound quality is great. I've spoken to several people who remarked on the clarity and lack of background noise. So, I guess that's the answer if you are having issues with it.
