612 Replacement will debut this year, and will have 4X4 drive.

Car is supposed to be very quick and filled with all the technology in the 458 inclusive of a more advanced e-diff.

I have to say that all wheel drive on a 612 does make a lot of sense. Will this be a "612M" or a totally new car?

Do you know if the 4 wheel drive will be standard or an option? Call me a purist, but there's something inside me that really cringes at the idea of a Ferrari with 4 wheel drive.

My info is from the factory team working on the project. I dont have the details on the drive system...first rumors are that its very advanced e-diff system that can give majority rear drive in sport mode and a more nuetral drive in normal....all of this is not confirmed....the one thing for sure is that the car will be extremly balanced handling with pace to match current models.

I will keep the board posted on what info I hear.

    Ciao!!

Sounds like Nissan's GT-R ATTESA-ETS Pro technology concept is trickling down to Ferrari.

    if that statement is true

then the 612 would be the shortest life ferrari ever
with a 6 year production span

You're making the assumption that this isn't a "612M" or whatever they call it, but rather an entirely new model. Nothing bronzage mentioned would be inconsistent with a revised 612, although it could be a new model.

Also, it wouldn't be anywhere close to the shortest life of a Ferrari model-- the 365GT, for example, was only in production for 4 years, and the 365GTC/4 for only 2 years.

Saw that going around Fiorano when I was there in November and wondered the same thing....sounded really good from what I remember.

Probably a test mule for the new Euro 2 emissions regulations, and stop-start.

Hard to believe Ferrari would bring out a 612M with the old 575 based V12 using belts. Would expect an Enzo architecture engine. Possibly F140E with F140D reserved for the 599 GTO?

You don't think Ferrari would use the 612 to road-test every component for the Enzo successor? Everything would fit, and it would give a ridiculously low-key mechanical test-bed.

...remember, in the business of mule-Ferraris, nothing is what it seems. RainMan couldn't even figure some of this sh** out.

The niche occupied by the 612 in the product range usually has the longest model life - witness the 456GT which debuted in 1992, was given an auto box in 1996 (GTA) and updated as the 456 M GT in 1998. The model was only replaced by the 612 Scaglietti in 2004 - a 12 year model life. Personally it was partly because the design was timeless and aged well - although in the later versions the same can be said of the 612. 2011/12 would indicate an 8 year model life for the 612 - which in today's climate may be more appropriate - and although they're not strictly competitors, the Panamera and the Rapide will certainly influence the design direction - as does the Gran Turismo.

AWD would make sense on the 612 because of all the Ferrari models it probably enjoys the highest amount of daily driving - and it would make it a better winter car for the European and North American climates.
