There are very, very, few "real" factory built DP cars around and quite a few after the fact parts conversions.

Documentation is key, as is research of course, and you know this because you are asking the obvious question. A couple of guys here have them, and will hopefully chime in with useful tips when they see this thread. In fact, one of them has (or had) a normally aspirated DP cabriolet for sale recently IIRC........

If you haven't already found these, here are a few links that may help.......

Thanks guys... I've been doing my research and there is a DP that has the triple Z on it's VIN indicating it's a batch of them that was for the DP factory but it has an Andial Racing Intercooler, Andial racing microfueler, RUF Cams, K27 Turbo, Borla SS Exhaust..
How come these items were not DP mechanical items if this is an authentic conversion? Did DP do the bodywork and engine simultaneously or was it some type of a la carte wish list that the buyer chose from?
I've been on the internet the last week or so researching but some of my questions are still unanswered, the info on DP's is very limited :(

ZZZ only means it as a ROW car from Porsche......not a US spec car.......whether or not it came here via the grey market is the question, and was converted after the fact.

    Someone called?

Yes I have a normally aspirated DP cabriolet. Great car! Has the DP suspension upgrades. It is certainly quick enough for what I want out of it. The looks of these cars are really cool. Gives a whole new meaning to the term Fat Cab! lol Most of the cars were done "aftermarket" in the US with parts from DP. There are only a few real DP cars.

BTW, mine is for sale. I have something else I am looking at to replace the DP.

To the OP, go for one of these cars. Mine easily draws more attention than the Fcars - they look that good. And they are pretty darn reliable.

    1984 DP MOTORSPORT 935 TARGA

BLACK OVER BLACK FULL LEATHER. ONE OF ONLY THREE EVER PRODUCED. THIS IS A REAL “DP” CAR WITH THE SOUGHT AFTER KREMER BODY. THESE CARS WERE BUILT TO LOOK LIKE THE FAMOUS 935 RACE CARS OF THE 80S THAT DOMINATED THE EURO RACE CIRCUTS. A DP MOTORSPORT CAR IS THE ULTIMATE 80S SUPERCAR. IT IS A SUBSTANTIALLY MORE THAN JUST A SLANT NOSE CONVERSION. IT IS IN THE 935 REGISTRY AND MOST CAR NUTS WILL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS. THE RECENTLY COMPETELY REBUILT MOTOR PUTS OUT OVER 400HP. OVER $48K WAS RECENTLY INVESTED IN THIS MACHINE TO MAKE IT ALMOST NEW AGAIN. DP ONLY PRODUCED A HANDFUL OF CARS DURING THE 80S. ONLY THREE TARGAS ARE KNOWN TO EXIST

The front ends are pretty low. I haven't had much of a problem...yet.

    Hi,
The DP Registry site is one we started a few years back when I got a DP. My goal was to put all the information I could find in one place. The "photo gallery" page shows the different body styles available. The "resources" page has magazine articles as well as a "data page" that shows all the options a customer could chose from.

I looked at and rode in the DP targa in Atlanta a couple weeks ago. It has a good papertrail and is a real "factory" DP w/ the correct DP fender tag and in formation from DP said it was built by them. I contacted the seller of the 77 DP and asked him for the DP build information and if it had the DP fender tag. He said he was not aware of a fender tag, and after a 2nd request, has not provided any documentation from DP on the build. It does look likea super nice car, but more information is needed.

I agree provenance and dp documentation from Cologne Germany is key for such a tuned hand built icon..

That car has been for sale for quite some time. It has always been behind the pricing curve IMHO. I believe it started out for sale at over 100K.
