Check out these ads. The first is from Ron Tonkin for a 1991 348TS, $60K.
Then I saw this other on cars.com for the same car $35K (same VIN). What do these guys gain by doing this? If I send my e-mail, does he just spam me or is he looking for a down payment to rip me off? Anyone encountered this? It is frustrating me as I am looking for a nice car. Maybe I should stay off these internet car search places.

What do you call 10 car dealers at the bottom of the harbor?

    A bloody good start.

Why stress weaselwee?? It would probably be a mistake. The $60K Ron Tonkin ad would be the correct one(cause of car price) The other, they ****ed up obviously! :)

Tonkin is a reputable place. I negotiated and almost bought a car from them, but eventually we were unable to agree on price. The cars.com add has a 212 area code, while Tonkin is in Portland. Don't know if the cars.com add is legitimate, but $35k for that car is way below market, unrealistically so. Tonkin price seems in line with those cars. If the price is too good to be true, there's a reason. If you want to be really nice, you can call the Tonkin people and tell them what you ran into. I'm willing to bet they are completely unaware of what is going on, or there is a legitimate error in the cars.com posting. Good luck.

    Total scam. That's Big Mike's car "speed=$$$"
It's for sale at RTGT. The scam is to get you to send a deposit, and your money's gone.

Last January I was in the process of a guy trying to scam me on a 1997 Dodge Viper Gts, which had only 2000 miles and he was selling for $30,000US, he stated that he and the Viper were in Greece and that he would send the car to me and leave it with me for 2 weeks all I had to do was wire him $3,000. It was a situation where i new it was too good to be true but I kept pursuing the situation, I still have all the e-mails documenting our conversations, including him e-mailing me pretending to Lufthansa airlines. The ad was on cars.com, and i checked the carfax report on the car recently and it staded that the car was sold in march i believe of last year.

Yeah Ron Tonkin has been around for some time. He has many dealerships if I remember right, so I would definately say the online ad has to be the fake.

Aye...RTGT is the (self-proclaimed) "Oldest Authorized Ferrari Dealer" in the U.S., and is trustworthy. That is a gorgeous 348, IMO, and although I can't speak to the difference between the two ads, I will say that the price difference b/w what it was originally listed at on Fads (when for sale privately by $=Spd) and what it's currently advertised at by RTGT is...well...sickening.

Maybe the cars.com ad is from a wealthy man from some African country?

I'd bust that cars.com seller by telling him you know the car is officially listed for sale at America's oldest Ferrari dealership and that you have circulated his potential scam on America's largest market base of Ferrari enthusiasts and potential buyers.
Those of us who are on other car boards can expose him there as well.

I did buy my 328 from Tonkin and they are a first class operation. Everything that they did was top notch stating with picking me up at the Portland aiport to having a variety of cars ready and waiting for me to test dirve. When they finally located the right car for me, which I now own they did a fair amount of predelivery small maintenance items including taking it over to WA state for an emissions certification and then arranged to have it shipped to my house.
You can trust the Tonkin add.

Yep, Ron Tonkin GT Cars is a nice place, the Internet is a scary place.....simple as that.

Best of luck, that is a nice car. Tonkin may have put some service $$ into it before selling as they would have liability if services not up to date, or it could be mark up! LOL!
