I do know, that when I was driving back to Lubbock for school once, that I decided to take Business 20, Instead of I-20, through Abilene to break up the monotonous drive between Dallas and Lubbock.

    I was thoroughly disappointed.

Yes.... rather nice state you guys have there. I left my Vette at Rob's a couple weeks ago so there really is nothing to do in Arkansas.

I have been in Little Rock for the last 6 months, before that I was in San Antonio for just over a year.

Dave - no, you can't borrow the Vette :D

You haven't spent much time in Arkansas I take it......... Abilene doesn't look like anything special but I will be traveling alot and it's almost close to Dallas. I chose it over Little Rock and Fayetteville, NC which aren't exactly garden spots.

If you have kids, make sure you are in the Abilene Wylie district/attendance zone.

Should have clarified a bit..... late 20's, no wife or kids. I'm thinking of buying but really know nothing about R/E out there. Something fairly close the Dyess AFB would be nice but it doesn't look like it would be a long commute even if I did drive across town.

Definitely..... I think the Confederate Air Force museum is there also. I will probably be there for at least a couple years so I will have some time to see the sights.

Compared to the desert land of Abilene, Arkanasas is the Garden of Eden. I just got back from Hot Springs a few weeks--beautiful. Highway 7 anyone?

Eh..... it's the people that make the difference. Highway 7 is a lot of fun, there are a lot of other tight twisty roads in that area too.

    Hopefully not myself :D

Yes....... it's been a while since I have lived anywhere that long.

All the sights in Abilene can be seen in about 45 minutes. That will give you a couple years to decide your next move. :)

Sorry, wasn't very clear. I haven't lived in NC, it was one of my options.... The plane I wanted/got is based in Abilene, Little Rock and NC. All the training is done in Little Rock so I had to come here for a while but am almost done.

I lived out in West Texas for about 7 years and loved it. Wide open spaces and no humidity. Abilene has all you need due to its population of about 100,000. If you can make it to Ft. Stockton in April, enjoy the Big Bend Open Road Race. It is a blast.

I went to college in Abilene (McMurry College). Relatives still live there. Not a lot to do there but there are all the usual stores, mall, etc.

Head out to Midland/Odessa in October for the airshow with WW2 re-enactment at the MAF in Midland. Was the Confederate Air Force show but they had to change their name to be politically correct. It is a great show. Also check out the Chaparral Museum display at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum.

If you are heading out that way, PM me and I will try to set you up with a visit to see the McLaren F1 I got to drive and all his other toys.

Hum you gave up the mountains and ocean in NC to be in West Texas. Now being from Texas I can sort of see that, but ah West Texas ah yah.

I'm from Oregon and both mountains and the ocean were only an hour away when I was growing up. I really doubt that I would want to live for a long time in west Texas but for a couple years I don't think it will be all that bad.
