I am going thru the brake system on my 1982 400i, and want input for brake pads, who used what and how have they performed?

Brake fluid dot 4, sylicone, synthetic?

    Thanks

I have ATE pads on my 400i and they are fine. I tried EBC Green Stuff to try to get rid of a terrible squealing noise (unsuccessfully!). I ended up having the calipers repaired, disks ground, and new hoses.

Almost anything else but sylicone brake fluid. You can not get a firm brake with sylicone, it always feels like you have air in the lines.
