Air Compressors

What kind of air compressor do you have? And what do you think of it?

 

I just bought a Husky electric air compressor at Home Depot for $99. Good for little things like tires and blowing dust off car (low pressure).

 

I bought the Craftsman 30-gallon, 6 hp compressor. It is the biggest one Sears sells that still runs off 120 volts. All kinds of air for everything I need to do and I've never had a problem with it.

 

My company services air compressors, generators, power washers, nail guns, etc. As far as a recommendation, it depends on how much you will use it. I have a 5 h.p. Vertical 2-stage Ingersoll Rand at my shop that has run all day long for 5 years without a problem. For intermittant use, this may be over kill, but remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! Do not buy a Campbell Hausfeld compressor or generator, they are in our shop all the time for service. DeVilbiss makes a good compressor and reliable generators as well.

 

My dad and I are picking up a husky stand up air compressor today... I think it's 5hp with a big tank(I can't remember the specs) but it does take oil. I got him an Ingersoll-Rand 235G 1/2" Impact Wrench. Any comments on oil-less Vs. oil compressors? And on good brands of air tools? C&H Iron Force tools look junky.

 

Just know that CH "anything" is very light duty.

 

Compressed air is as memory for your computer, you can never have enough. Get one that gives at least 20 CFM at 125 PSI. It can have a smaller output if the tank reserve is big enough. I have an upright. They take up less real estate.

I started out with a smaller one. It did not have enough air for all the air tools or to spay paint. I got another one. It was not big enough for my new sand blasting cabinet. These are real handy. They take up little space but need AIR.

If you buy oiless be sure to get a few sets of earplugs too.

I bought a 80gallon 2-stage. The most fun was running piping for 14 quickjack fittings in my shop, though!

 

If you are going to run any air tools such as cut off or grinders for a length of time you will need a 2 stage compressor, I have a 2 stage 30 gallon with a 11hp gas engine in my service truck.

For home use Sears makes decent elec compressors and are good buys if you get them on sale
